Warm and dry.
Comfortable.
Neutrally fashioned - ie not great clod hoppers or hiking boots, could pass on a night out.
<£100

Problem is the fashionable looking stuff - even the ones that are furlined, etc. are usually pretty miserable in actual cold/icey weather.

Dunno if there is anything in the Merrell Helixer range (a few different styles) that fits the bill never tried them to see how warm or functional they are but some don't look like they'd be to out of place on a night out.

Not sure you'll ever get away with wearing boots into clubs etc though.

I've never had a problem with boots like the Dune range (which aren't particularly great in real cold weather), but walking type boots will get you denied in some places.

Well you can walk into Wetherspoons in just about anything :P but many of the places that take themselves more seriously can be fussy on busier nights of the week.

Yeah but suppose Caterpillars and Timberland boots have become a fashion statement in some circles hence why clubs are fine with them as long as rest of the outfit holds up.

Timberlands?

Oh, one-two, oh my god
One-two, oh my god

Correct answer.

How about a pair of leather chukkas with rubber or dainite soles (not crepe soles like some desert boots which will look dirty quite quickly and wear even faster)? The rubber or dainite would be grippy in bad weather and this style of ankle boot can be reasonably dressy under a pair of trousers or jeans if you find a sleeker pair. You can also continue to wear them into spring where proper winter boots would become too warm.

E.g. Herring Gosforth or Loake Kempton or Pimlico. Although there will of course be cheaper makes so this is just an idea to google them.

I got a decent pair of Timberland boots from the York designer outlet, £55, usually retail about ~£100.. They're pretty water proof and very comfy!
