Radeon R9 390X 8GB or GeForce GTX 970 4GB

I'd go for a regular 390 over a 390X , not worth spending the extra.

Put the savings towards other areas of the build.

I'd pick up an EVGA or Superflower PSU instead of the Corsair :)

you could just go for 390 Nitro 259£ thats plenty enough for resolution up to 1440p , no need for the 390X, it's about 10% more perf for almost 100£ more, that you can get through OC with a good card like nitro, but if you really like that X here 390X for 349£
and you sure you wanna go for AMD CPU ? i mean the FX are really out dated, you should stick to intel for now, untill AMD releases Zen CPU.
if you insist on AMD cpu, get a 8350 or 8370 instead of that 9590 is going to be a pain to cool.

If you do get a Corsair PSU get an RMi not a regular RM, I read something about the capacitors not being great in the basic RM and the RMi having different ones which solves the issue. Personally I've been using a Corsair TX850 version 2 for about 5 years and it's been faultless so I'd have no qualms with going Corsair, I just thought I'd mention the capacitor thing as I did some research not long ago as I want a modular replacement for my TX. I've decided on the RMi when I can afford it.

The 390x does have more grunt than a 390, In some games it barely shows and in some it makes a difference. I had the same with my 290x and being unsure whether to go for a 290. I was glad I got the faster one in the end so far as performance was concerned so I would go 390x if the price difference isn't massive. But, I'd try to go Sapphire as they're worth paying a bit more for if need be.

I'd also go for an i5 rather than an FX for a gaming rig.

390 or 390X is definitely the best choice at this price point. I'd recommend the MSI, though whichever you choose, they are cracking cards ;)

I honestly don't get the reasoning of doing an AMD build. But if you are certain you are going to go for the AMD platform over Intel, rather than than overpriced "factory overclocked" FX8 CPU, you'd be better off trying to find and 2nd hand FX8320 for around £80 or less (and overclock it yourself), and use the money saved to get a Fury Nano over 390x/970.

Interesting thread as I am also looking for a new card soon.

Just thought I would post up about the CPU. Although I have an 8350 and think it is a fantastic chip I would question going with AMD over Intel today. I got mine about 2 1/2 years ago and offered great bang for buck especially when overclocked.

As others have said save some coin and go for the 8350, second hand even of you can.

Dempsey22, AlamoX, anthony566, Dave2150, elrasho = Considering I wanna save money I'm considering getting the 390, there isn't too much performance difference that is massively noticeable like you guys said. So the 390 seems to be making its way to my basket.

nashathedog, Marine-RX179, GinG = I'm still stuck with the decision of wither to go Intel or AMD? I like the look of the motherboard I currently selected but would prefer to sacrifice looks for performance. I was thinking for going for a 8350 for AMD as it will save me money and is great. But should I go Intel or AMD for what I wanna do with my PC??

Anything I get is gonna be amazing anyway as my PC is a dinosaur aha, but wanna get my moneys worth and make a good build that can withstand my torture.

Forget about the AMD CPU, they are far behind Intel atm and they haven't released a chip in 4? years.

390 + an i5 is my suggestion.

solid system - AMD systems are not that far behind specially if you're doing a lot of things at once - but yea building one now on am3 platform with am4 going to be released soon. As much as I love AMD even I wouldn't now :D

though I do love my 8320e which does 5ghz without much voltage bump.

390 also solid way to go :D

Thanks cant wait to get started and build it.

I kinda choice AMD at first because I saw the Sabertooth Motherboard and it looked awesome and kinda went from there aha.

And damn that's awesome!!! yeah intel seems to be the way to go at the moment and with the graphics card its saving me money compared to my first decision of the GTX 970 and giving me an extra 4GB of VRAM more or less which is fantastic.
