Cheap Digital Thermometer

Just a heads-up that I've just picked up a cheap digital thermometer from Lidl for £2.99. It's pretty handy as it has 2 readings one measured at the display unit which will obviously give you a constant readout of ambient temps and another for the sensor which you can then place wherever you want in your case so you have a quick and easy reference between the two.

I've been wanting one of these since reading Doyll's excellent work on case cooling so I can optimise my own cooling using his methods.

This post is useful for me in two ways. Good idea and also, I was going to ask. I assume it's OK to link to other vendors if its something OCUK don't carry? What if that vendor is a competitor?

Mention of or linking to direct competitors is a no go even if they stock items that OCUK do not.

Spent an interesting afternoon with the thermometer measuring temps at the CPU cooler intake, finding out how efficient (or not) my fans were at getting cool air where it was needed and tweaking case layout & fan profiles. I'm much happier with my layout now knowing that it is properly optimised. Finding out I actually only need my rear exhaust fan running at idle to ensure sufficient cool air gets to the CPU has allowed me to run less fans until I start putting the CPU under load, making it quieter for web browsing etc. Definitely a worthwhile project if you have £3 and some time on your hands.
