In addition to the recently released Netgear device some of us have discussed on here i came across this due here any day now....

Thomson stuff in my experience is normally pretty reliable but the web interface with regards to what you can do and info they provide is normally very limited, however given the features of this device it will be interesting to see what the price ends up being.

It looks interesting. Certainly better looking than some other modem/router combos out there at present. Off the top of your head, Can you recall what chipset the Thomson units use? I think the BEbox was a Thomson unit and I believe that was broadcom.

Most Thomson units are broadcom chipset, the TG585v7 which i think was what BE used for many customers was a Broadcom 6338 chipset. The TG582n which i think they also used was a Broadcom 63281. Most of them are 6 series broadcom chipsets with only the odd being Lantiq based.

The TG799 mentioned here if you google around seems to be used by a couple of ISPs in Sweden and the far east and for the most part seems to do a good job for its users. The only thing i really dislike about some Thomson routers ive used is A) limited interface options and B) to apply settings and browse interface pages can be a bit slow, other than that they are normally pretty stable devices when it comes to the connection just working. Can not confirm for certain but i would imagine based on the DECT etc features in some TG799 versions it will also be a Broadcom chipset.

That sounds quite good then. At least we are now seeing more options to chose from. I'll try find some reviews for WiFi performance of this unit.

The limited googling i have done points to most info on forums of ISPs in other countries. Those as briefly mentioned being Sweden and the far east, it seems there is quite a bit of good info about the device but a lot of it being in another language makes constantly using google translate a bit of a pain but i imagine you could probably find all the info you may want with a lot of patience. (So thats me out lol ;) )

If you find any useful info about performance on wifi or other functions though please do share it here.

PS I actually like its physical design also, simple and neat IMO and not like the damn upright things that topple over at every chance lol.

Not a problem. I'll update your thread if and when I do find some further information.
The design is very appealing compared to the likes of the Fritzbox. I don't mind the look of the Asus but that is the least of the worries with that unit!

Let the search commence.

BitsnBobs, Do you recall us briefly discussing the new Billion device (8900 series) which we were hoping would be released soon? I've been doing some digging and no one knows when it will be released. They have stated that they are hoping to have it out this year.

I got fed up waiting for a good all-in-one solution.

Went with the following..

Openreach modem
Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite
Ubiquiti AP-AC-Pro
24 port gigabit swtich

Yes, it costs a bit more than one single solution, but it's ROCK solid. Means I only need to run one cable from the modem to the central Router/AP/Switch.
