So sell a £400 console for £100 only to replace it with another £400 console which does exactly the same thing

I'd keep for the exclusives - it'll be worth it in the long run.

This, any cross platform game i'd get on the PC first but the PS4 seems to have a healthy amount of good exclusives and is only getting better as time goes on

Sell now to buy things he wants for his pc and then buy one again in a few years when they are cheaper.

Like I said, no point having something sitting there gathering dust when there are things he wants to buy that will actually get used.

Bruy more stuff for your pc first, you've clearly not brought enough if this is still a question. Bruy some stuff from Gog.com, bruy some stuff from Humble Bundle and bruy some stuff from greenmangaming. Once you've brought games from those three you'll see whether bruying more games on the ps4 is worth it or not.
