Giving your children an 'unusual' name

My eldest daughters name is Melissa. When she started saying her name she used to say..

"issa do it, issa do it" which progressed to "Mu-issa do it". She couldn't grasp how to say it properly until I got down to her height and exaggerated my mouth and tongue movements to her.

My youngest daughter LOVES her name, Jasmine.

Obviously she gets called Jazzy and Jazzer but her favourite is Jay Jay as her middle name is Jean.

Naming children is tough. Doing the same right now.

We want something g intestine but not pretentious. Difficult to make that balance.

Naming a child is one of the most stressful things I've ever done. Not only do you and your other half have to agree on it, you also have to contend with family members putting their oars in too.

When we was naming our girls we wanted a 'known' but uncommon names. With our eldest she was named after a character in Pulp Fiction. When she was born her name was very rare...now it seems to be everywhere.
With our youngest me and the husband had whittled it down to 3 choices then asked the eldest which one she liked best.

We're having a boy in April. I wanted to call him Albus, she wanted Christopher, so we compromised. He still be called Christopher.

didn't david bowie name his sone zowie bowie and his son later changed it?

rather silly imo, just pick a normal name

Wonder how many fans used it as inspiration :D

The rising star revealed last year that his father was such a huge fan of the singer that he named his son David Zowie Ziggy Stardust Aladdin Sane Thin White Duke Twig The Wonder Kid.

His mum later changed his name by deed poll to David Zowie Canada Batt.

why not confuse everyone and give your boy a name that can also be given to a girl...like Lindsay or Hilary :) There's surprisingly lots to chose from.

Alternatively just pick a name you like but spell it 'differently' like some people seem to be doing... think Chester being spelt Chesta (please don't do this one lol)
