Ekwb 980 waterblock strix thread snapped off

This is my first Ekwb gfx card block and was on final part tightening down back plate and I heard a pop and noticed the threading part on the nickel had come away of the block.

Not exactly impressed now there is going to be a delay in my build with returning block etc.. I bought direct with Ekwb as overclockers don't have this block in stock.

I was not doing anything forceful ,tightening down gently

Are you able to remove the threaded part of the standoff from the screw hole?

Hi,

The stand off is next to the hole bottom left of pic,I managed to grip the stand off with a pair of fine needle nose pliers and un tighten the screw as it was just spinning if I tried to un tighten it.

Sorry I miss read your comment,I take it you meant the thread still in the gpu block ?

same thing happend to my 970 block it happened to 2 of the standoffs

im in process for sorting it though. just cant afford to send it off atm as im off work sick.

Fitting my 980ti block & backplate to my G1 tonight, & I'm 4 screws missing.
Got loads of the M3 screws but missing 4 of the longer M2s

Off to maplins in the morning to see if they have a few.

No joy in maplins for me so contacted EK who are sending me a pack.
Won't be here until next week though.

Trying to find a local company that has them in stock, but not having much luck atm.
Need them to finish off my build this weekend.

Who are you dealing with at EK support to get such good service from them. They were completely useless with my leaking blocks and if it wasn't for EK Luc on here I would never have found out the required O ring sizes. In the end I bought them myself even though one of the blocks is under a year old.

Guy called Peter Sajn, from EK customer support.
He's been very helpful, from time of first contact to shipping the screws was 2 days.

I've managed to find some M2.5 bolts locally but they are 12mm long.
Going to try & cut them down to 6mm as I want to get my build finished this weekend.

Igor was who I had contact with and he was useless. His lack of help has put me off buying EK stuff ever again.

If you have a Dremel or similar you should be able to trim them down nicely. If you just have a hack saw you may need to file the first thread a tad to make sure it doesn't strip the threads in what you are screwing it into. You can even use a pair of side cutting pliers but it takes more filing to get a acceptable thread started.

Yep, I should be able to cut them down without to much fuss.

Did you check in the folds in the packaging for the backplate ? Thought I was missing a few screws too.

Yeah, sorted in the end. Managed to find somewhere local that had M2.5 bolts in stock. They were 12mm though, so had to cut them down.
All went fine though, card is installed & running perfectly. Maxing out around 40-42c after a good session.

EK were very good though, I recieved replacements from them this morning.
