hi

moving from a CM690iii case to a new corsair air 540 case. i have a simple loop:

whats he easiest way to drain it? suck it through the reservoir filling hole into a bucket?

started reading some youtube vids but none seemed to fit my predicament.

also, i want to add a draining valve to it. what one should get, my wc loop is a ocuk value 240mm kit.
is t easier to replace with a round standing pump and res in the main part of the 540?

also, can i place the xspc res vertically in the vertical 5.25 bay of the air case?

The best way to drain your system in my opinion would be to remove the CPU block then open the fittings over a bucket, this avoids getting any fluid over your components and it allows you to remove the motherboard and other items relatively easily before you remove the loop.

As for replacing the pump it will be an easy enough task to complete once the system is all drained, dry and ready to be fitted in the 540 as their is a large amount of room in the case to fit a pump and whatever else you wish to use but you may need special mounting hardware or adapting kits as the back is more set up for pump and res mounting.

As for fitting the pump sideways I'm not sure about how pracitical it would be to fill but as long as the pump has water above it so it's not running dry it should work.

Good luck with you're system and I hope I could help :D

Thanks mate, that's sweet. I hope to fill the reservoir before setting it in place unless it goes in front way only

Bear in mind that you may need to fill or top-up your res once it's installed. Nothing stopping you tipping the case to do so I suppose.

It's the start of one. It'll let you split a hose so you can have a drain port in it - preferably at the lowest point. On the T you could go as simple as just a stop fitting (a screw-in blank) but it may be more helpful if you have some hose and then a stop so that you can get it over a bucket when draining. There are ball-valve fittings available (like a tap) that you can use but people tend to put a stop on the end of that as extra protection - it depends how much money you want to spend vs the convenience of draining when you happen to do it.

cool. thats what i'm after, my lowest point will be to the bottom of the case so i can 'hide' the extra bit of hose.

what other bits do i need, i have the bits that the tube goes into, whats the best way of capping the resultant tube off?

cheers. i ordered two screw caps to be sure and 2 further compression fitting and a t bar. hopefully arriving in time for saturdays build!
