Anyone have experience of GBH/Assault?

Best bet is to hang around outside your local county/district court tomorrow morning and ask the emerging weekenders what verdict they got.

Good idea, also take a sniper rifle and pick off people who look like this...

Hm when i was assaulted some 17 years ago and suffered slight bruising i got 70 compensation and the guy got a caution. I didn't need to go to court.

My friend was assaulted and took a fracured cheek and chipped tooth probably 500-1000£ compensation.

why did he sucker punch you ?

Probs just a suspended if its clear as day that hes cracked you and done one.

Police/CPS should pursue it, i thought anyway if the evidence is there.

I supposedly pushed past him in a packed bar when on my way back from toilet. I can say 100% that I always say "excuse me" etc and I politely navigate my way through areas. However this guy thought otherwise. He was ejected from the bar as soon as it happened then some random person grassed him up to me and told me the guys name.

But anyway, I'll just leave it at that, because its not something I really wish to discuss :).

Was just wondering if people had first hand experience of similar and how things panned out for them.

Well if you hadn't said excuse me then it's clearly fine to sucker punch you .

Surprised they just kicked him out we always had to hold anyone like that until police turned up.

I was punched in the back of the head during a football match about 6/7 years ago. The force broke my cheek bone. (I was walking away at the time after a fair enough tackle, but the guy was getting more and more frustrated at me getting the better of him)

They guy was sent off by the referee and he promptly got in his car and drove of while I was out cold. His team wouldn't disclose his name, and he had given a false name to the referee.

I had to drop out of an intensive fast track uni course (I was 2 weeks into it and my face was like a balloon and couldn't talk/eat/think without having severe pain), they guy was never identified, and I spent a week of summer in hospital and months of discomfort.

Someone from the police let me know about criminal injuries compensation and I successfully got awarded £2k. But tbh, I would rather the guy had his life affected in an equal manner to that of myself.

Go to the police? Because he broke your jaw he will be charged with gbh, section 18 and 20 probably? Maybe affray if other people around you were affected. Maybe, possibly, probably. Go to the police.

Surely his team mates should have been done for obstructing the course of justice?

I already have.... did you read any of my previous posts? :).

Its out of my hands, CCTV backed up my statement...

I kinda said everything already guys :D

In all honesty if it's a first offense and there were no weapons involved, then more than likely looking at suspended sentence and some court costs. Criminal record though could naturally affect the professional life depending on current situation and future prospects.

You'd be surprised at how quiet scousers can be...

Also, the Police were very difficult to work with because the assault happened in one region, they were from another, and then I was from another still. It went on for about 6 months with them getting nowhere, so in the end I just had to put it behind me.

That's a bit different. The inference there is taking a positive action to obstruct, like giving a false name. That, they potentially could be done for. But with a few specific exceptions, the public aren't obliged to assist police, or even to give statements.

In other words, failing or refusing to help isn't illegal, but actively seeking to obstruct is.

Example - if you see someone's running and a police officer asks what you saw, you aren't obliged to say. But if you do say, and lie about where they went, what they were wearing, etc, then you're in trouble (if you get caught).

A mate of mine got the same as you, sucker punched to the back of the head which in turn caused him to face plant through a window which broke his nose and caused severe lacerations to his face and neck. Came a few millimetres from slicing the artery in his neck too. After which, as he lay out of it and bleeding on the ground, the guy decided to use his head and chest as a football.

The guy who did it was caught on the bar's CCTV, tried to run but got nicked a few streets away. He ended up being charged with a section 18 GBH and received just over 6 years.
