Exclusive – Nvidia Talks GameWoks And DirectX 12 Plans For 2016

Nvidia make a library for any devs to use and the devs want to use it, you can only blame the devs, No one is holding a gun to thier head.

My advice to you is don't buy any game with gameworks in it as you will be only saying to devs that this is acceptable.

Hmm like I did with Ubisoft!
Edited my post with my final response, sorry but I'll be dipping out of the convo from here. I actually will still buy gameworks games, prob just have to decide if it's second hand or not :D I agree though, gameworks is good for the devs but I just like it to be open source or more fair for AMD in my opinion. Either way I'll be having some food now so have fun.

The way I have always seen it is that when a game has problems it's on both Amd and nvidia be it gameworks or not!

It's just more convenient to blame gameworks.

when gameworks is the problem then it makes sense too lol. The link I posted in the thread earlier showed a massive FPS damage caused by hairworks in the witcher 3, was turning on the gameworks feature somehow AMD's fault when it was Nvidia's library that was designed that way? I'm just playing devil's advocate here but if Nvidia designed the software and the performance hit was massive and only evident when they turned the Nvidia feature on then why would we blame AMD who had no hand in it? Let's not try and shift blame to the clouds or the sky either as we can't just blame any passer by.

Thats nvidia's fault, even more so is this snippet

'Nvidia faces more backlash over at another popular Reddit thread which laments Witcher 3's performance on Nvidia's Kepler-based GPUs, with the thread claiming the more recent Maxwell-based GTX 960 outperforms a theoretically more powerful GTX 780'

I have a 780 and did not buy the witcher 3 ( which i would love to play ) but i did not buy it because of this issue, Have they fixed it, dont care anymore so the devs lose out. would i disable hairworks even though i am on nvidia, sure would.

The dev introduced an effects slider IIRC so it should be OK now on older cards.

Not sure why you post in Nvidia threads. You clearly don't like them, so it just comes across as sour. I never let politics get in the way and just enjoy my hardware and maybe you should do the same? I personally like GameWorks and some of the effects like Flex and WaveWorks are great. With the latest news of Bethesda adding weapon debris effects, I will give that another play later and probably do some recording if time allows. :)

I don't mind having extra effects to make the game look better. The problem is that the DLL files that they are using are closed and AMD can't view the code to optimize it for their GPUs. This is in stark contrast to what AMD is doing. With TressFX for example, nVidia was behind with respect to performance in Tomb Raider but later on they were able to optimize their drivers to make TressFX run better to the point where it has caught up to AMD in Tomb Raider with TressFX enabled because TressFX doesn't have a hidden code that nVidia can't view to optimize their games unlike GameWorks. That's the problem. Where as with AMD's new initiative with GPU Open they can easily optimize it as it's open source.

AMD's Richard Huddy goes into great detail regarding this as to why they can't optimize their titles for GameWorks due to the closed nature of GameWorks titles as stated in the video below:

Yeah, Crystal Dynamics(TR devs) and Nvidia released statements that they were working hard behind the scenes making code/driver optimisations to ensure TR played great as it did as initial performance wasn't that great.

Dont need a video, AMD cant use Nvidia effects because they dont belong to them, its not ****ing rocket science. Same way I cant take my neighbours Maserati as it doesnt belong to me. These are life lessons youre learnt as a toddler growing up.

Your fanboiism just jumped to a whole higher level bro :O

No, they are simple facts of life. You're not allowed to use things that are not yours unless given permission.

I honestly cant believe some of you are arguing this. Although its generally called trolling.

No game belongs to nVidia or AMD or Intel - so none of them should run at all. Good logic.

So, you think everything should be closed source? Why is AMD allowing nVidia to view TressFX code so they can optimize Tomb Raider to get the best performance out of their hardware?

Were talking about Gameworks. It doesnt belong to AMD, you cant use it.

Doesnt matter what I think. Nvidia have closed off their tech, like it or not thats the way it is. AMD owners qq'ing about it reeks of jealousy.

I dont know why AMD are letting anyone do anything. AMD are the queens of open source because if they are not, no-one would use what they make/create/develop/buy, its very uninteresting/uninspiring.

One thing for sure though, NVidia owners would never demolish a thread qq'ing about AMD not allowing Nvidia to see TressFX code.

No it reeks of paying for a game and wanting the same experience as what the Nvidia guys experience. Nvidia users don't pay more for the game so should get the same experience. Devs need to stop using this pre baked closed off crap and provide all the people that pay for there game the same experience with no favouritism. If Nvidia want Gameworks in games Devs should force them to make it open or not use it. Nvidia would still get advertisement through the game.

It really should be about the game and not what brand of card you run. Hope Openworks is a success and Gameworks dies a horrible death unless Nvidia open it up to be more fair.

If AMD or RTG had a decent market share perhaps they would, but as it stands why should they, these are companies not charities.

The problem is we do not work for theses companies, we are consumers and enthusiasts and whats better for the consumers and enthusiasts should come first from a consumers and enthusiasts standpoint and not whats best for the companies at the expense of the consumers and enthusiasts regardless of brand preference, if it detrimental to a consumers then its thumbs down.
