Probably a silly question but has anyone been recently and is it safe considering the war last year? One of my work colleagues from Kiev says it is but I wanted to check.

Other parts of Ukraine, including Kyiv

The situation in Kyiv and western cities is generally calm, although occasional public demonstrations continue in and around the Verkhovna Rada (parliament building) and elsewhere in the city. On 31 August 2015, 3 police officers were killed and more than 100 others injured in clashes outside the parliament building in Kyiv. The Ukrainian authorities have recently increased their internal security measures and warned of possible security incidents in Kyiv and other cities. There have recently been a series of hoax bomb threats, especially in Kyiv. You should remain vigilant and monitor the media for information about possible safety or security risks. Public demonstrations can flare up and turn violent with little warning.

There has also been a series of small explosions, mainly in the middle of the night, and other security incidents in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Kherson and Lviv. These have included bombs being placed in pubs and cafes and outside banks. Of the most serious incidents, 3 people were killed and others injured in a bomb attack on a march in Kharkiv in February 2015 and a policeman was shot dead and another seriously injured in Odesa at the end of June 2015.

You should take great care and remain vigilant throughout Ukraine. Avoid all demonstrations and take extra care in public gatherings.

The British Embassy in Kyiv is open to the public by appointment only. If you need to contact the British Embassy, please call +380 44 490 3660, or send an email to [email protected]

We played a Champions League game there in October and it was ok for supporters.

Been there quite a few times since October 2014, never had any problems whilst I've been there (well minus a vodka related mishap) - Going back in March

Thanks again guys. It's to go and see our Kiev team before they leave. So it would be Kiev rather than any other location and apart from the taxi we would be with other locals.

Btw: with the current exchange rates, Kiev is extremely cheap compared to the days prior the conflict with Russia and the Uprising's at present most people there are struggling for Jobs with the Big Investment now gone. For a 1st timer you will be fine. Service level's have improved. I would definitely visit the presidential palace. Cheap tour bus takes you there for less the $8 and you get to see where all the money went over the last decade, apart from that the City is safe. You will find lots of English Speaking Girls in the Local mcdonalds or KFC :) :)
