Friends Reunited closing down

I used it once over a decade ago...

whatever next... myspace and faceparty to close too?

can't say I'm too fussed

Didn't realize this was still a thing. Like you say, Facebook makes it kind of redundant as it's relatively easy to find someone if you have a name.

I found a few of my old classmates via Friends Reunited back in 2001.

In 2005, I joined Face Party. Didn't find any classmates on there, but it was a blast for finding locals who liked clubbing and online banter.

In 2007, I joined Facebook, but that just annoyed me more than anything else. Didn't see the point of "pokes", countless status updates, and didn't find that many classmates on there either. Web sites that requires you to "login with Facebook" gets my goat too.

Subjective I know, but Friends Reunited and Faceparty were the better sites for me.

Friends reunited wasn't terribly useful. The majority of people you want to know from school you're probably still in touch with bar the odd one or two that you managed to lose touch with. The rest were people you'd rather forget!

I was contacted by two long lost friends through that site, so it did have its use. The majority of contacts though were from creepy guys from the past who wanted to try and hit on you online. Mind you, you get that on Facebook too, but it isn't quite so bad for it.

You have to feel sorry for the guy who came up with the idea, seeing zuckerberg a billionaire.

Just goes to show, you don't have to come up the idea....you just need to make it better.

I can think of 157 million reasons why I don't feel sorry for him.

He made enough money from Friends Reunited to live in luxury for the rest of his days without working (if that's how he wants to spend his time). Why would anyone feel bad for him? That's a success story.
