Friends Reunited closing down

I remember when it first started and tracking down old primary school mates, not to actually talk to them but just to see what they were up to. It was amazing at the same but yeah I didn't realise it was still around.

I can think of 157 million reasons why I don't feel sorry for him.

He made enough money from Friends Reunited to live in luxury for the rest of his days without working (if that's how he wants to spend his time). Why would anyone feel bad for him? That's a success story.

because it's closing down, whilst facebook is being bundled on over half of mobile phones, and even had a banner on the american republican debate the other week

it's a success, and made him a lot of money (I'd be happy) :D but you gotta admit, it does kinda feel like an idea you came up with is having better success under someone else

maybe not - we don't know what kind of revenue the site was pulling in through subscriptions and advertising.

Well I can tell you for a fact it wasn't making £37.5m a year (the average required for ITV to not have made a loss) else they wouldn't have sold it for £25m. Generally a company is worth 3-4x revenue which if that was the valuation that £25m put it at then it MAY have been turning over £9m a year, but that's not profit and it obviously went downhill otherwise it wouldn't be closing.

A company going down in valuation is no good thing.

I have to admit, I do miss the days of the original AOL, and MSN messenger

AOL?? Are you joking. A slow walled garden bloated piece of advert ridden software running on a dial up connection

I used Trillian starting in 2001, which was a cross-network chat client. You could use the AIM protocol over that without the bloat. Used that for a few years, then moved over to Pidgin which is a portable app.

I don't get the hate for Facebook tbh. If your timeline is full of rubbish, delete or hide the perpetrators.

Otherwise it provides a really convenient way to share non serious stuff with lots of useful features you don't get with email, it's reduced my text messaging and MMS messaging to nearly zero and it doesn't cost a penny.

Oh well, at least I got a couple of ****s out of it. I registered out of sheer curiosity when it was plugged as been the next big thing, and within a month I was balls deep in an ex who contacted me on there out of the blue.
