Dysons...are they worth it?

I have the dc50 animal and I can't imagine anything doing a better job. It's so good that I have to empty it more often due to it sucking up loads of the carpet pile.

its not just about suction alone though, you need agitation as well.

We have a sebo and a dyson, I rarely hoover up but the missus raves about the dyson. I honestly don't see anything wrong with the sebo but she reckons it doesn't work as well as it used to despite me replacing the bag/filters

I've got a dyson upright thats coming up for 10 years old and is still great. Comes apart nicely to unblock, odd change of filter, two drive belts that have both happened when its decided to get fruity with a sock and can't quite swallow.

Been good for me.

This isn't going the way of a normal OCUK vacuum thread every post should say miele in it unless things are changing round here ;)

I got a Miele C3 Cat and Dog recently and it is a truly excellent bit of kit the cat and dog head has a brush for beating the carpet and it sucks like a very sucky thing certainly beats any vacuum cleaner I've ever owned! I also like it being a bagged model so much easier for emptying and no nasty filter to clean!

Had a henry in a few student places and for me the only thing they have going for them is a huge capacity and bullet proof reliability which I guess is why they are so common in commercial settings. The performance I always thought was pretty lacklustre and I would never have a vacuum on carpet that didn't have a brush to beat the thing!

Same here, it's excellent. My parents have a couple of Dysons, which used to give me terrible backache because lugging the thing around was so obnoxious.

Having the Miele run across the floor is much more convenient for me, and the power from such a small unit is incredible. I only run it on half power most of the time, because at full it's enough to pull the whole carpet up - let alone the dust.

I have a Dyson, love it and prefer it to the Miele we had after the previous Dyson.

Have a Henry but thats only for DIY work - terrible hoover for carpets but great where you want loads of power for dust and rubble and you don't care about causing an issue with what you suck!

Basically I suspect everyone will prefer what they currently have, love Mile washing machines but will never have another hoover of theirs.

My Grandmother has a Dyson ball, my parents have a Miele cylinder and I have used various others, including Henrys in various different rented houses.

I like the Dyson ball the best. The Miele does a good job, but I'm not a huge fan of cylinders. My current house has a Henry. It really struggles getting stuff out of deep carpet.

Another vote for Dyson!

I have a small cordless handheld for the car and picking up bits and pieces, and then a bigger Dyson. You can get 'big' uprights which are quite heavy, and a smaller one which is much lighter - the lighter/smaller ball would be my pick.

I had a Vax once - horrible, and even worse customer service! Never been able to fault Dyson's customer service, had to contact them twice for the three different vaccums we've had, and been stellar each time - even pre-emptively sending us some spare belts etc. when we called up a couple of weeks before the warranty expired!

If you can easily lift 50Kgs without thinking about it and have carpets, get a Miele.

If you have a small house or a gf/waifu needs to use it, get a Dyson Ball

If every floor is laminate and you want the cheapest, get a Henry.

I have a Dyson and it's very good. Spare parts are easily available for good prices unlike pretty much every other brand.

If you don't buy a Dyson then please don't become one of those people who feels like they need to tell everyone why they didn't buy a Dyson.
