When I installed my Son's laptop I had to join the insider program to get the latest build which allowed me to activate directly from a Win 7 key due it being incompatible with Win 7. Now i'd like to come out of the insider program but it wont let me. I click stop updates and get given an option of delaying updates for a few days and then just below that is a link to permanently come out of it. This just takes me to a guide which says to do exactly what I've just tried.

It looks like the only way I can get out it is to install the latest full copy over the top. Is that correct?

You should have a "Stop Insider Preview Builds" button on the Windows Update screen within Settings.

Edit: Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Stop Insider Preview Builds

Try the following...

Go to insider.windows.com
Sign In with the credentials you used to join the program
Once signed in, there is a 'Leave Program' link at the bottom of the page
Click that and confirm you want to leave

I'm having the same problem (just made a separate post - sorry! Mods, feel free to delete the other thread I started).

I start a new job on Monday though and now I really need reliability and stability above all else on my laptop. I want to switch from the Insider Preview build which I am currently running to a stable final release. I'm having issues with this latest build as when I am transferring files or folders across directories/drives I get no progress window, plus a few other minor annoyances! My current installation was an upgrade over the top of Windows 8.1

I have tried the following: Start > Settings > Update & security > Advanced options > Stop insider preview builds > Stop receiving insider preview builds.

I get the following message "We need to do a few things to stop receiving builds" but then nothing. It stays like that for hours and the only option button is Cancel.

I tried your suggestion of going to insider.windows.com, but once I have opted out it tells me I need to reinstall original OS!!!

I just bit the bullet and did a clean install of a non insider build. Looks like the only way out.

Worth doing that anyway in my opinion, moving from insider to retail never felt quite right. Clean install fixed that.
