How does this budget 1080p 60fps build look?

I'm getting close to replacing my old machine, and want to have a nice rig for 1080p 60fps gaming for AAA titles like BF4, Elite Dangerous, Rocket League etc.

My max budget is £700, with no need for an OS, monitor although a nice new 22/24inch would be nice!) or peripherals.

Is this any good/would it work well together? I went for the 4690K so I can overclock and get more oomph out of it. Or is it not needed?

Looks fine to me.
You could go for a pre overclocked Skylake build (changed the case to accommodate the heatsink)
This qualifies for free shipping too and will run a bit quieter. You can choose an AIO for an extra £40.

All In One, like the Corsair H60 you choose first of all. As opposed to a custom water loop where you select each component and build your own.

You can pick any to add after if you like. Silence seems a high priority for you so compare the noise at load for each one. Air cooling tends to be quieter, especially at the higher price brackets when compared to AIO's (its the pumps inside that tend to cause more noise).

Ah got ya. TBH noise isn't really a factor, I chose the Corsair H60 as it looked decent for OC'ing?

With noise not being a driving factor, does that change anything with the spec you posted? (Which looks really good tbh, DDR4 RAM and a newer i5!)

Looking at Bickaxe's build, I believe there is a 16GB option on that bundle for £40 more which may be beneficial as a few games are starting to come close to the limit with 8GB (GTA V springs to mind).

Game runs fine on 8GB, I upgraded cause I thought it was using up all my RAM but it didn't make a lick of difference. Even with 16GB now I couldn't use up more than 8GB.

How does this look? I hear the latest i3's are decent for gaming? Went for 16gb RAM because whynot?

8gb 390 will stomp all over the 380's you've been looking at, and probably last you longer than a 970, and still under budget. You might wanna check that the case is big enough though, as I didn't check. Also you might want to change the case altogether, but that's upto you.

That i3 bundle with all in one cooler is more expensive than the the i5 with a HSF. You're paying more for less performance, and the AIOs aren't even that quiet in my experience, and they also have more points of failure.

Get the i5. If you want an AIO, you could fit one yourself later on down the line if you see a good deal (OCUK often get refurb deals at really good prices.)

With a budget of £700 spending extra on 16GB of RAM is pointless. 8GB is easily enough - if you begin to get low then close your web browser. It's not like you need it open whilst gaming and once you've finished you can open it up from where you left off.

Yeah the cooler is too big (165mm).

Also that psu is pretty average. I would want something a bit better for an overclocked cpu and a 390.

I have an 8 pack i5 6400 with Alpenfohn cooler and it only just fits in my Coolermaster Aero 1000 case which I think the spec states up to 170mm.

I had a similar budget, went for a GTX 960 4GB, 240GB SSD and a Super flower 550HX. I've been playing Elite Dangerous and Arma 3 at 1080p and it's rock solid at 60 fps

It's more than adequate for the use. I doubt it would see anything over 400w during gaming in that syatem, it is reviewed favorably by JonnyGuru, It's from a reputable supplier and is backed up by a 3 year warranty. What's not to love?

It is full of Capxon and Teapo caps which are of lower quality than the likes of Chemi-con and Rubycon.

Also the ripple is pretty bad on that thing, which can cause damage to components over time.

I like the look of this spec!

If you're at all concerned about the issues Lee32uk mentioned (ie ripple etc...) then chuck a few extra quid in and grab a better 500w+ psu. I personally wouldn't worry about it, I highly doubt it would cause any problems long term; I myself have been using the EVGA 430w (the 500w's little brother) for a number of months: it was running a ten-drive freenas box 24/7 for about 3 months, until about 2 weeks ago I moved it into a machine with an i5-3470 and gtx 660, and I haven't had any issues at all.

But better safe than sorry I suppose, so here's a few other suggestions, if you can stretch an extra couple of quid over budget:

Note, the fractal design 500w 80 plus gold PSU is on today only, which is quite handy but price will go up tomorrow.
