Just watched The Hunger Games for first time.

Wouldn't bother with the books, they are just as bad. Always made me laugh that the author always said they had never watched Battle Royale - yeah right.

You say that as though it's literally inconceivable that two people in the history of literature would have similar ideas...

by far the best thing in it is JL and god is she hot

Most people rave about all the films but they are entirely bang average. They get worse as the films go on as well. I have no idea how people rate them so highly. This isn't teenage girls either, its grown men and women.

Regarding the film, I watched it for what it was and still found it hard going. Addition of Rifftrax saved it though. I also read the books in a moment of extreme boredom and they're really very poor. The first is at least an interesting idea by itself but the second and third are hilariously bad.

Yes, but this borrows more than a little from BR. This is evidenced even further with the "omg, I better write some sequels" rehashing of the same ideas in books two and three. The author didn't really lend themselves any credibility by being unable to follow up the first book with anything original.

The idea of the books shows promise, but she doesn't help herself by rehashing so much of the first book in the second book and then not leaving herself enough time in the third book for everything she wants to do. It gets really congested at the end and it feels really rushed.

Anyway. I don't think she ripped off Battle Royale. And clearly the original writer doesn't either, or they'd have come up with a plagiarism suit. It's easy to accuse her of plagiarism when you're familiar with Battle Royale, but you need to remember that the majority of people have never heard of it. Why would they have done? At the time Suzanne Collins was writing athe Hunger Games, Battle Royale would have been about 10 years old. It's a Japanese book/film, so not exactly mainstream. Hell, it was subversive and had a troubled release in Japan, before you even think about translating it and releasing it elsewhere. The film had a very limited release around the world and was banned in many countries. It's entirely conceivable that it would pass a huge number of people by.

I didn't mind them really, fairly entertaining for what they are. The last one was fairly weak though and the loss of many of the characters didn't really have much impact.

For all their faults, they're still better than the likes of Divergent which was utter tripe.

Haven't read the books, but have seen the films.

Liked the distopian beginning of the first film, but it turned to drivel aimed at teenage girls after that. Follow-on films are all drivel.
