thinking about upgrading from my z97 ddr3 mobo and not quite sure what I want, what would be better to get, a ddr4 or ddr5 mobo? as for my next cpu choice its going to be an i7 6700k skylake.

how much faster is ddr5 is comparison to ddr4, both stock/OC'd ?

Any particular reason you need to upgrade? Going on your signature spec, you don't say which I5 you currently have, but a 6700k isn't going to be a huge upgrade from a Haswell I5.

DDR5 doesn't yet exist - the choice will be between DDR3 and DDR4 (as there are socket 1151 boards available for either). At present there is very little difference, as DDR4 is still in it's infancy (but will only get faster), whereas DDR3 has reached it's peak (although if you already have very high end DDR3 and wanted to save money, then you could keep it).

my cpu Is a 4690k (think its a devils canyon) , the ram is team extreme lv frost ed. I want to upgrade just to get rid of the little glitches/framerate drops that I get here and there.

You have a very good setup as it is and would be just wasting money. Have you tried a clean install of windows to cure these "glitches"?

Going from a 4690K to a 6700K is unlikely to make any difference to glitches and framerate drops - at stock speeds the difference between a 4690K and a 6700K is around 10%. (http://www.trustedreviews.com/intel...analysis-and-verdict-page-5#tr-review-summary)

I'd be more inclined to just overclock your 4690K (if you haven't already), but ideally you need to identify what the glitches/framerate spikes actually are (e.g. is it a specific game or point in a game, does it occur in everything, what resolution and settings are you playing at?)

Your spec doesn't list an SSD, I would hope you have one (as not having one could cause spikes when loading etc), but even if you do be worth checking for firmware updates etc.

I recently installed windows 10 and it was happening before the install

I play everything on ultra at 1080p and its in points where there are a lot of things going on like explosions or in skyrim sometimes when spells are being cast. an enemy may pause for a second then teleport(not being confused with AI ability's) to another place and a shot misses.

doesn't happen all the time, just here and there, my ssd is a Samsung 850 evo 2tb

Skyrim should be smooth as a baby's bum on your current spec. Something else is up:confused:

most of the time it does, the 1st time i noticed framerate drops was in the early part of the game when i was on my way to the 1st dragon mage/lord/thing? going through the tight catacombs had framerate drops, everywhere else it was good.

It is probably Win 10 giving you the problem. update your graphics driver via the cards site not via microrubbish..

Do you use any kind of recording software whilst gaming, fraps or that amd thing whatever its called? If you do its important to make sure you are writing to a different drive than the game is being played on or you will probably see spikes where the drive hits 100% due to a write.

This happens particularly with things like shadowplay where its in theory constantly recording so writes and frequent. Now you could use a faster write drive (SSD) but you would just be killing it quite aggressively over time. Therefore the Ideal solution is to create a RAM disk and use that for the shadow drive (always on capture) so if this all sounds like its your problem maybe get a few more sticks of RAM and do that.

I used to have these random freezes due to that, i'd suggest opent the relevant system apps and just keep an eye on the drive/CPU/Ram usage when a freeze occurs... It will be really obvious what your problem is then. If you see the line on your drive shoot up to 100% then thats probably it.

Hope it helps, of course this might not be useful at all if you don't :)
