I almost certainly have not been scammed on ebay, any ideas?

Very possible that RM knew before the EDD that they lost the parcel. Source: I work for a very large delivery firm.

It's that age old scam where the victim doesn't loose anything.

How would they when it was just a signed for item? It doesn't have full tracking and only gets scanned again upon delivery (after being sent).

Maybe they dropped it into a bottomless pit by accident, while loading it onto the van.

I don't know it for a fact, but I have a pretty good inkling about this

I could also be without a phone until the £255 is refunded, and I buy a new one. Of course, I'm still back where I started, but really him taking my £255 is not his choice to make is it?

imagine if overclockers did that to you? Buy a graphics card as your old one broke.. borrowed the money for 10 days then told you that your not getting one..

er.. that does happen. OcUK have done it to me a couple of times over the last 16 years I've been using them. Website said something was in stock, later turns out it isn't. I got money back - end of story.

OcUK aren't alone in this. Amazon have done it to me. So have many other places. Its not just online, either. I ordered a new sofa, paid for it, waited for delivery of it for something like 10 weeks. It turned up and wasn't the one I ordered so I sent it back and got a refund.

And look.. the world is still turning.

Because it is almost certainly tracked. If the sender doesn't pay for tracking it won't be provided, but it's still tracked at every step.

They still wouldn't have the barcode to scan though would they :p

The only other possible explanation is that it got damaged/crushed/run over but they could still scan the barcode somehow....I find this highly unlikely.

Citation needed.

I have had RM signed for things go missing in the past and every time Royal Mail claim they have no way of telling where it is because it only gets scanned on delivery. You just have to wait a certain amount of days and then file a claim. All the while the tracking just sits at "progressing through our delivery network" which is what happens when you send it at the post office.

Seriously? Clearly something dodgy is going on. I don't quite get all the negativity towards the OP.

It may not be a scam in the traditional sense, but something dishonest is going on.

Maybe by reading the arguments put across by numerous posters already in this and you will see where the negativity is coming from. People like to start threads complaining about Ebay long before there is actually an issue. It is getting tiresome.

Maybe you should be banned from the members market if you think the way the ebay seller has carried out the transaction is ok?

Nah, I'll do fine as I am.

So a guy posts a thread about an ebay transaction that he is rightly concerned about as it does look very suspicious and you ask if he can be banned rom the Members Market? Seems fair :p

If the guy was legit, or had any intention of refunding me, he would have done it already. Don't worry, I won't be using MM. I would happily bet someone £50 though that this guy won't refund me before the 28th. Why would I do that? Because I know this guy is a scammer, you get a feeling of people

Ask yourself, why would you send a £250 phone untracked, via economy delivery, open yourself up to items missing and then on the day it was due to be delivered, why is he saying royal mail told him the item is missing?

On what planet would royal mail contact someone before the delivery date and say " your parcel was due to be delivered today, unfortunately we've lost it, sorry " once you get past that, the only other option is he has not sent the phone

OH MY GOD!!!

How do you get through daily life? You come across as a nervous wreck!!!

The answer is very simple. The phone has sold very cheaply. Considering faulty ones have sold recently for the same amount i'd assume he's pretty gutted about it and wanted to sell it somewhere else for more money.

*If he cancels the transaction after you've won you're likely to leave negative feedback.

*If he refunds straight away and apologises that it got damaged, you'll probably also leave bad feedback.

If he says it "got lost in the post", then he loses accountability for you not getting it and you get your refund through the normal claims process. If even some of the money is missing from his paypal account he can't refund you straight away because the whole amount needs to be in his paypal account to do an instant refund. If he's a penny under the amount needed it'll take about a week to refund you as this is how paypal works. Blaming royal mail and sending a refund means he still comes across as a good seller, but doesn't have to send his phone and shouldn't be getting negative feedback from you. "polite friendly seller, item lost in post, refund received okay" should be all the feedback that he gets.

If you make a claim through ebay, he gets the option to refund buyer as soon as the case is open. Hell even ignoring it and letting ebay intervene will likely be quicker for you to get your refund than him sending it through paypal manually. He might also not know that if he sends a refund through paypal you won't be able to open a case against and get two refunds. Maybe he's just playing safe?

You need to take a step back, realise that you WILL get your money, that he HASN'T stolen anything (at best it would be obtaining money through deception) because you HANDED THE MONEY TO HIM. And then stop posting in here like a crazy person. Jeeze, haha.

I sold an item on Ebay, it was perfectly described had an abundance of pictures and I sent by Royal Mail Special D and could prove everything.

The buyer contested various bits, ie not received at first, then item not as described. All sorts of nonsense. Ultimately I had some stupid lock on my account and Ebay/Paypal making no effort at all to help me. So scamming as a buyer is really easy, much more difficult as a seller.

On the note of damaging items before posting... My girlfriend did this last week about 10 minutes before a guy from Ebay was going to pick it up!

Like I said, unless you pay for full tracking, they won't provide it no matter how many scans it gets.

What *was* it? :p

e; Oh right, a table? Thanks URL. :D

Even if it is lost? That is bizarre. So they have full tracking but still say they have no clue where it is?

Do you work for Royal Mail then?

My father use to work for RM and he said they do know where a package would be as it goes through the delivery process. The tracking details may not be recorded on the customer tracking systems but every parcel should be scanned on entering a new depot or van. though they might not know where the parcel ended up and you might not be able to go to the website to track it they can know where the parcel was last scanned and that it is no longer.

Whether it was actually lost or not is irrelevant though, as you know you are getting the money back one way or another and knew there was always a risk involved anyway, be it delivery loss/theft or scammer.
