Hi,

I have just bought a Gigabyte 960 OC Windforce 4GB card and installed it and installed the latest drivers.

I thought 960's fans didnt turn on until a certain temperature? 60 degrees?

My fans are funning permanently and are sat at 43% fan speed and the temps are 26 degrees. I have downloaded msi afterburner instead of oc guru as heard its better. Tried setting a fan profile to say no fans until 60 and saved it but still no joy.

Any ideas?

Matt

You are right, that's not a feature on any of our GTX 960 cards. It is a feature in all of our Xtreme Gaming series cards though.

But you can change the fan curve to whatever you like, the fans are super silent anyway.

You cant change the fan curve to 0 as others can such as msi/asus. The default and locked minimum is 43% which is just rubbish!

No fan running at 1000RPM is "super quiet" in my book. My MSI 780's fans run at about 1062RPM at idle and are by far the noisiest thing in my system, since I run my case fans at 500RPM. It's a very noticable difference from the previous cards I had in there which turned the fans off at idle, and I wouldn't even consider a card without a 0dB mode when I upgrade later in the year. There's absolutely no reason not to have that feature, considering we've even seen 390Xs with it.

This can definitely be heard at idle. I wanted this particular type as heard it is idle at low temps so browsing the net is in peace and quiet. When im gaming i would have the game sound blaring so wouldnt care for noise.

If you think the description is wrong on the OcUK website you can use the website error thread in general hardware to report it.

It`s not good enough Matt, if you got it from here and you don`t like it, chuck it back. "But its quiet at 43%" don`t cut it, 0db is 0% fan...period

mediamatt if you are not happy with it and really wanted the 0dB fan option send it back and get one that has it. Don't go flashing a VBIOS as someone has said to a new card that is not designed for it. Not worth the risk you may end up bricking the card and loose your warranty on it too.

Yes it does state 0dB Semi-Passive Fan (up to 60 degC) https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...graphics-card-gv-n960wf2oc-4gd-gx-162-gi.html :-/ OCUK may need to change their description. Or you have some software running overriding the stock settings, do check you don't have some GPU overclocking tool auto starting with your system that is setting a fan profile on startup.

I would have gone with this one, it's a faster card too https://www.overclockers.co.uk/evga...s-graphics-card-04g-p4-3967-kr-gx-290-ea.html for a little more. Maybe return it and get this and they really do have 0db fans till 60c.

Matt I've tested mine, the same model as you describe and mine states 0db on the box and at idle in Windows the fans aren't spinning. I've read on the gigabyte forums that there are 2 different versions of the same l card, I'm not sure if this is correct, mine is code GV-N960WF2OC-4GD, is yours the same?

There are 2 version of the Gigabyte 960 4GB OC. One has is shorter with a blue accent on the fan shroud and a larger one with an all black shroud and a backplate. The short version does not have 0db mode whereas the larger one does.

I sent it back in the end and got the MSI version which is totally silent to my ears, even when the fans are spinning (which only happens at 60 degrees+)
