My girlfriend and her extended family want a sunny, beach, all inclusive, do nothing holiday and have picked Albufeira. Because it's "cheap". I'm expected to go.
On the face of it, I really don't want to go. I imagine it to be full of Daily Record reading, fry-up eating, Carling drinking overweight Brits. Which sounds exactly like my workplace and therefore hell. I imagine it's like Magaluf/Tenerife and all the other awful package holiday places. Add to the mix two young children, with doting family members and my dislike of children.
However, am I being completely unreasonable and the typical OcUK snob?
I don't enjoy holidays lounging on the beach, sitting in a pool or getting as drunk as possible. I'd rather be out exploring towns, markets, eating great food and seeing fantastic scenery. I prefer an adventure, rather than a package holiday. If I want to do nothing, I'd do it at home.
I've been told it'll be £770 each for a week from the 1st of July which seems eye wateringly expensive to me (and indeed it is according to my brief search on lollypop.com). I reckon there'll be at least another £300 on top of that bringing the total closer to £1100! I'm budgeting £1500 for 2 weeks in India in April, which gives an idea of what I think about budget.
So, is it actually good? Or is it just good for those that want to do nothing and have a little bit of Britain in the sun? (Of course, nothing wrong with wanting those types of holidays, it's just not for me! I actually wish I could do nothing for a week, but I'd get bored halfway through day one.).
I've put forward the idea of me flying into Lisbon, where I'd spend a few days and then driving down there for a couple of nights and driving back. This brings the costs down massively, but it's gone down like a complete lead balloon.
So, enlighten me!
