Babies are bloody expensive!

Strapping the seat in takes seconds after doing it a few times. So glad I didn't waste money on ISO bases. Plus it's easier to swap between cars.

You don't need a breast pump. The nipple goes into the babies mouth and milk is passed out of it. My wife breast fed for 14 months and 13 months on our 2 children. Never had a problem

My lad is one year old today and having read this thread I started to work out how much we have spent.

Travel system £550
Basket/cot/chest for bedroom £200
Monitors/bottle warmer/bottle steriliser £50
Stroller £50
High chair/Travel cot/safety gates £120

Nappies/wipes £300
Formula £480 (not needed now)

For all the essentials. £1750

Clothes/booties etc as needed but 2 a penny really from Asda or Primark. Can't go wrong with them. Most were got for us though.

Travel system. The basket used for a month or so, then onto the chair part. Ended up being too bulky for popping out and public transport and we got stroller at 5 months. Not used system since.
Basket used for 2 months then he went in his own cot in his own room.
Bottle warmer used for 4-6 weeks max. Then onto warming bottles in hot water if needed.
Monitors used for 9 months, well I say that, the night light one was. The one we use to hear him was not used since say 6 months old as he has a great set of lungs on him. Don't use any now.
Steriliser was used for 3-4 months. Then it was wash under hot water with liquid and boiled to sterilise. After 6 months once he was on solids, just washed and rinsed like our pots.
Travel cot used daily. Plonk him in there to play whilst we do chores etc it is a god send.

Next time we are not bothering with anything. We still have the stuff but it ends up being too much time wasting setting things up. Going to use old skool methods instead.

Lucky her.

My wife tried & tried but it caused her too much pain.

Formula milk from then onwards. I now have 3 grown daughters.

The eldest & youngest do have dairy allergies though.

So my first is due at the end of March and we are wrapping up the essentials that we could get 2nd hand off of neighbours and friends, and I am stunned by the prices of some of this stuff. The margins must be unreal.

Example: electric breast pump in mothercare for £350 quid! You could get a nice watercooling setup for that and the pump would probably be better quality!

Obviously they've got their market by the short and curlies, but why aren't there companies trying to undercut them?

We got a beast pump free with our health insurance.

You think babies are expensive but they only get more expensive as they get oldr, you wait until they go to college.

Anyone who spends that much money on a breast pump is an idiot. For a start, the most expensive one on the Mothercare web site is £100 cheaper than that but really, if you need one then why do you need an electric one when a manual one is just £20.

Spoken by someone who's wife evidently didn't pump much.

This.

I understand some mothers can have difficulty with feeding, but why buy a pump without finding out if its needed first? It is most likely not going to be required.

It's git nothing to.do with difficulty breath
Atfedfibg, it's about having a supply of breast milk when the baby isn't with the mother.

I don't want to rain on any new parent's parade, but your kids will cost you £230,000 each from birth to 21 years of age.

Having raised two daughters to that age now, I think that figure might be on the low side.
