The Witness [PS4 - 26th January]

Yeah, pen and paper out already.

I had to brute force my way past one of them that was like wee trees on a green screen. Just couldn't figure out the system.

Had to resolve to making graph paper to work out a couple of puzzles, and some well I have walked away from for now... 70 puzzles done, but no idea what the whole game is about. I'm just walking around trying to figure out puzzles and what the patterns are . additive but also like a Mensa test .. Lol

102 panels done so far, not had to resort to pen and paper yet, I did take a few photo's to refer back to on one set though, two trophies so far too :)

Colour palette immediately reminds me of NMS. Anyway, spent a few hours in yesterday and like other posters some puzzles came to me, others less so. And no I haven't got a clue what the game is actually about but I am enjoying it! My only gripe is lack of ambient music ala Riven or Myst III.

Yeah but it has a lot of ambient noises to make you feel isolated.

TBH Ambient music ends up getting on my wick most of the time and i end up turning it off, unless it is key to the experience like Journey

Learning how the puzzle mechanics work yourself without the game telling you directly is so refreshing, something that game design today seems to lack.

Ah ok thats fine so another account can access games purchased in my name on the same console?

Yes as long as you have your PS4 as the primary* console, any account can play games on it.

*If you haven't used any other PS4 then this will likely be the case anyway

Wow really enjoying this now. Bit of a minor spoiler relating to gameplay.
Only just realised about the audio cards that you need to click on to activate.
The tree puzzle really highlights the that it's all about
visual cues!

Oh my... I can now absolutely confirm that it's not all about the panels and that this may take me some time lol...

Enjoying this even though it feels a bit like taking a Mensa test.

I do feel (so far) that the Talos Principle has a more interesting and much less pretentious world. Some of the stuff in this feels self-indulgent rather than thought-provoking but that doesn't take much away from just how clever some of the puzzles are and just how much the "simple maze" concept has been pushed.

Small tip, I've come across at least one puzzle that requires sound so if you usually play with the volume low then you may get stuck cursing your stupidity until you reach for the remote control.

I'm still struggling to work out the tetris piece ones (don't think that is a spoiler?), I've got 2 lasers going and almost done a 3rd, will be back for more later!

Have to confess my poor brain is clearly skipping with some of these puzzles. I'm ok with the different sequence types up-to a point and then I'm having to leave it and find something else to try.

In effect I've attempted a lot of and completed I suspect three quarters of most sequences dotted around the island but have yet to fire up a single laser!

I don't think you will be alone there, it's the sort of game that I can imagine a lot of people giving up on because it really is a hardcore puzzle game and if you don't like the core maze mechanic then it's going to be a disappointment.

I think the marketing has been a bit misleading because whilst the island exploration is a pretty diversion, 90% of the game could (and I think will be) distilled down to an iPhone puzzler.

The puzzles are very well done, but it does feel a little bit like what could have been a $5 puzzle game has been wrapped in a further $55 of pretentious prettiness. (NZ prices)

I'm still enjoying it and just got a little further by returning to locked door near the beginning which has revealed another "key" inside. I'm not frustrated .. yet! I've had to break out paper and pen though!
