After much research I'v decided to buy one of the above but am torn between the two. The MSI has better GTX 980 desktop GPU vs the 'slower' GB GTX 980m and max 64G Ram vs 32G and GB has HDMI v2.0 vs MSI v1.4 (HDMI old tech. ?) and GB has higher res. screen etc. well you know the specs. so any opinions about these two gamers please ?

Hi Sandude,

Largely depends on what your usage is going to be, and what your priorities are.

There is obviously a big price difference between the two units, but if pur GPU performance is your prioroty its also worth considering the AORUS X7 Pro with SLI GTX970m as this will give even better graphics performance than the single GTX980m.

Let us know if there are any specificc questions you have on the AORUS or Gigabyte P37X units, but we assume you want user/owner feedback rather than a marketing pitch !

Hope you get the balanced and fair views that you need to assist with your purchasing decision.

Good luck,

I need a fast powerful laptop mainly for video editing and my assumption is if it's good for gaming it's good for anything. The MSI has a desktop GTX 980 but screen is 'only' 1980x1020. But higher res. could mean small icons ?

Will you be outputting to external monitors ?

Both are extremely capable notebooks as the gap between desktop and notebook performance closes. On the GT72 it may edge it having the 6820HK CPU and having 32Gb of DDR IV compared to 16GB DDR IV

Depending on if you game or not, the addition of a 75hz Panel with G-Sync maybe a welcome addition.

For fast file access, we are using NVMe SSD in raid configuration

Notebook check I would say is a pretty reliable (often brutal) in their assessment of notebooks.

This will give you an idea of GPU performance for Single 980 GPU vs 980M vs 970m SLI.

Oh and the GT72S is also certified for being VR ready if that is something that is a priority for the future.

Just got my MSI GT72 & my first disappointment is the screen colours look washed out & less vivid compared to my MacBook Pro. Is there some easy colour calibration I can do to fix this ?

On my GT72 6QE there is some simple software control called MSI True Colour, the designer setting is more saturated, if that is the sort of thing you are after?
