So, I really want to get this game, but playing the demo is a pain! I've tried everything, am I missing something so obvious??? My one and only quest, head out and collect some animal livers (cat ones in paticular), I roam the desert, find a big ass cat. Try to kill it and die.

My little toons do like 5-10 dmg on normal attacks, but receive a whopping 50 or so dmg in return which is half their health! Maybe one cat can be killed, but if more than 1, I've no chance.

The difficulty is set to easy!

I'm holding off buying the game until I'm assured it's not some form of 'if you know the game like the back of your hand, your fine, if not, no chance'.

maybe they are the wrong cats. have you tried staying closer to home?

I'm sure they are normal/correct ones as they provide the liver I'm after... I changed the toons jobs but it really made no difference, all my guys are level 1... Which might be the cause.

I think i found this when i tried it, the combat system isnt really explained if i remember rightly! I think you can not attack to save up moves for a more powerful hit later

May be wrong

You know if you know nothing about this game this thread is rather hilarious to read :D

The demo is pretty broken in terms of difficulty, the difficulty ramp in the game is much smoother.

The game does require a lot of grinding since every new class you get needs to be leveled up to unlock it's abilities. Getting the proper ending is also a big undertaking as it involves replaying a large section of the game multiple times with small variations. That part took the shine of the game a little bit for me but I'd definitely still recommend it :)

this is the part I gave up on unfortunately, up until that point I had had 40+ hours of a very good JRPG with an excellent battle system but it became too much of a chore.

the full game also has an excellent mini town building street pass side project that I enjoyed.

with the demo, you need to hold back on your attacks to build up so you can do multiple devastating attacks, I cant remember the demo too well other then I spent a few hours on it and it made my mind up about buying it.

Lol, I never played the demo and played the full version of the game on hard from start. By the second area, I was starting to get my damage up close to the 1000s. Now at end game I'm pretty much constantly hitting for the damage cap (9999). Make sure you equip weapons and use abilities. Accessories and armour also provide buffs too, you want to build strength unless you use magic, in which case build intelligence on that character.

Levelling is an aspect of the game. Unfortunately the game doesn't specifically give you a chance to level or tell you when to. I played with encounters on +100% and grinded a bit early on and I was fine. Most random encounters are finished in a single turn via auto-attack (if set up correctly). Bosses take time and are difficult, which is a good thing. These bosses can be learnt and players can figure out how to deal with them. It's good fun.

The sequel comes out next month, but as much as I enjoyed the first game, 1) I have no funds and 2) pre-ordering is dumb (though I did pre-order this first one *facepalm*). Plus there's the chance micro-transactions may return. FYI, they are 'okayish' in this game since it's easy to get SP normally, the whole mechanic is optional and rather pointless/underpowered IMO, but even so I despise the presence of MTs in a full priced game.

Tell me about it. Each time I got to that point, I just dropped the game for months. I completed the game recently and I found out I hadn't even got the true ending. Luckily it puts you back to before the split in narrative, but a similarly demoralising situation has made me drop the game again. I think I had 120+ hours or something when I saw the credits roll. Can't remember exactly. A shame you never got that far, cos the story just goes... boom. Even the flipping title has some cool relevance to the story in it that one will only realise once they've gotten to a certain point in the plot. It's a genius small touch and appreciated.

That's my 2 cents. Take it how you will.

Soooo, it was me being a pleb, now I've got the hand of the default/brave system, it's MUCH easier. I was being a pleb and simply attacking once, receiving hits, attacking once, receiving hits etc. Now I've got some skills, magic and physical. All is MUCH more fun.

Buying the game :D
