x99 for oc and gaming

What a day i had yesterday and seems all is still not great now.

Built system with above parts and then spent most the evening trying to find out why the board would refuse to boot past the Gigabyte splash screen and load windows install off my usb device.

Reseated the ram and cpu no change.
Disconnected all but essential parts, left (ssd, keyboard and mouse, gpu)
seemed to solve the issue so one by one i add them back into the mix, Asus xonar essence sound card, all loaded fine, other 2 hdd, all loaded fine. Connected up all usb devices - saitek x55, ED head tracker pro, usb 3.0 connection to my asus swift.
Issues with boot process again and cant get too windows.
Started reading some more on the problem and it would seem X99 and usb is an issue? Seems a lot of people are having to connect up usb devices once the system has booted into windows.

Some reports a bios update has or will fix this? I guess im going to have to wait for a bios fix as this board is new and the latest version f20 has not sorted the problems?

What a hassle, not had these kind of issues for a long time.

now in debate if a new bios is going to be quick in the making or if i should return the board and buy something else....

Decisions Decisions......

I could buy a USB powered hub to make life easier i suppose until a hopeful fix is made.

It's sad to see that these X99 USB boot issues are still happening at all considering how mature the X99 platform is at this point.

It seems to be an issue that has affected motherboards from all manufacturers.
With regards to Gigabyte, I think the SOC Champion has had very few reports of USB board issues (this could be due to it's more stripped down build/design for overclocking), but it does show that Gigabyte must know how to fix these issues so hopefully you'll get a swift response from Gigabyte with regards to your X99P-SLI atomic. (there's usually a Gigabyte rep on these forums so hopefully he'll spot this and be able to assit you)

I managed to trust message the giga rep today and he has asked support to look at me ticket with them asap, so fingers crossed i get a decent out come.

Found out my new ddr4 ram was faulty and had to send that back today as well.

Sounds like you've had a bad run this time round. Hope that you get things sorted soon and that you can move to more fun aspects with the overclocking.
