So I got the 980ti the other day and it's the first card I've had that the fan's don't start until the card hits 60c. When I'm not gaming, it will be just below 60c and sometimes it will hit 60c and I will hear the fans start/stop/start/stop. It's not super annoying, but I was wondering if it's actually better to manually set the fan speed?

If I manually set the fan speed to 50% (it's not too loud tbh), the card is at 38c.

Would it be worthwhile keeping it at 50% and the lower temp or just allow the automatic fans to do whatever?

I'm not sure there is a "best" setting as it's down to personal preference.

Having said that I run a manual fan profile to keep the card cooler and the Lightnings cooler is so impressive that it's barely audible while keeping the temperatures under 70C.

My fan profile is set so that when idling the fans go to 30% at 50C which is about 650rpm and inaudible, then shut off when it gets down to 45C. Never hear it :)

60c idle does not sound good, low-mid 40s is where my Gigabyte G1 sits idle with the heating on. What card is it?

I have mine at 40% fan until 40C, then at 1:1 using a custom profile in afterburner. It now idles at 28C and gets to about 60C at load.

60C at idle does sound high if the card isn't doing anything. What's the rest of your system? It could be a combination of a hotter-than-average card and poor airflow.

Using Afterburner.....For air cooling I used to set 25% fan speed until temps get above 40, then set a 1:1 curve minus 10 (so if GPU was at 70 degrees, fan was at 60% etc). I find 1:1 too loud for my tastes with any air cooled GPU.

My 980Ti is now under a corsair h55, kraken G10 modded set up. I'm getting quiet pc obsessed.

Your idle temps seem way to high to me to be honest. Are you using a 144hz monitor by any chance? Your card won't donwclock and go into low power mode if you use 144hz on the desktop which might be where your issue is coming from. If you set 120hz on the desktop you should see your temps drop and the card will remain silent when you aren't using it. You can still set games to run at 144hz from the ingame menu without adjusting the refresh rate of the desktop so there isn't really a reason to go over 120hz for desktop use.

I can't think of any other reason you'd be getting 60 degrees at idle.

Hi

I did not think the G10 would fit a G1 gaming?
How did you do this as I would really like to go AIO cooling.

@ me? My 980Ti is a Palit Superjetstream

Take a look at my post here bud...

What card have you got? You'll need to do some proper research to see if/ how it will fit your particular card, and then get ready to buy some 'bits', but, if you're prepared to put some time and effort in, and don't mind a bit of modding, I think the Kraken G10 can fit any 980Ti.

I use Chrome, yes.

I changed my monitor from 144hz to 120hz and the gpu idle is now 45.. is that more normal? With all fans off.

Yes when you go from 120-144hz the clock frequency jumps quite a bit. My 980ti does this. on 144hz my 980ti will idle around 60c (due to the fan profile) the standard profile keeps the fans off <60c however i adjusted it so the fans are on 30% minimum all the time. They cannot be heard at all and keeps the temps much lower. However at 120hz it does not get that warm anyway 30-35c maybe. its those extra hz that just tips it into much higher frequency meaning more volts too = more heat.
