Best Graphics card for £250

If gaming at 1080 the ram 'issue' doesn't cause any noticeable problems as far as I could tell, and a 970 will clock percentage wise far further than the 390 will (it's already closer to it's limit).

I don't have any problem with AMD and their Fury cards they're performing decently if I'm not mistaken, but I just couldn't put one of the 390/X's in my machine when they're so power hungry and pumping all that heat inside my case (do not confuse this with keeping the GPU itself cool, as I know they're fairly cool with the huge heatsink). The 8GB ram is pointless unless cross firing and we all know how well cross fire works most of the time.

My last few cards have all been AMD (6870, 7950, and 290), but the current two I have in my two PC's are a 970 and 980 which run cooler and they feel smoother in my games too.

My 290X lightning uses average 50Watts more than the gigabyte 970 I had. That's when gaming, browsing etc uses the same watts.
I found the reverse to you. My games were smoother with the 290X for definate. Nice to know I have the full vram specified as well ;)

Hi alamoX I have got £500 for psu graphics and case so I'd say £100 for case £100 for psu and a bit better £300 for Graphics

Thanks in advance

alright here is what i see, the case is out of stock in black, but available in white, and i could have picked a tiny case if you had a mini-itx mobo :D
the GPU i picked the Fury Nano, it's about 20% more performance than a 390 and £110 more expensive (puts you between GTX 980 and 980Ti performance wise), the PSU i picked 550watt, the Nano doesnt take that much, so if you want to switch the Nano to 390, grab a 650watt for £20 more also white color, the black version out of stock.
so you can have a build for £430, if you go with 390 nitro & PSU instead.
also need to know the Nano cooler isn't as silent as the nitro one, especialy if you want to overclock

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £519.23
(includes shipping: £12.30)

Cheers Alamo

What's the difference between the nitro and nano ??

Here is a Review of the Nano, 390 is around 970 performance so you can relate to that for 390 perfs when checking the benchmarks.
the Nano is a very small form factor card with latest AMD architecture Fiji, it come with HBM memory instead of GDDR5, one of the reason i mentioned the size of Full tower yout were buying, is that with next AMD and Nvidia GPU line up, most mid to high end cards will come with HBM memory, therefore be small form factor from now on, and it's really weird to have a huge full tower with a tiny gpu inside.

The R9 390 is the better buy IMHO. The GTX970 would have been my choice for a mini-ITX setup but since the Nano is £350 on OcUK,I think that is better in the case.

The whole driver issues, for at least single card setups is a bunch of meh for 99% of all games, and has been propagated even in the days when the 9700PRO was destroying the FX5800 in HL2 back in 2003,and people still said Nvidia had better drivers then.

Possibly, but with AMD's dodgy drivers? Not so sure.

You mean like the awesome Nvidia drivers which meant BOTH my GTX960 and a mates one seem to run ARK(an Nvidia sponsored game using UE4) worse than an R9 280 another mate had which is a slower card, based on an ancient core?

Or another mate who has a GTX580 who was complaining how he can't run a game he recently bought due to driver problems.

Or my old GTX660,whose performance has fallen off a cliff compared to the even older HD7870?

Most of the time when Nvidia cards have driver issues(remember the 320 series a few years ago which were junk, and caused me issues with Planetside2 and Metro:Last Light),all the issues are quietly hidden away.

but I just couldn't put one of the 390/X's in my machine when they're so power hungry and pumping all that heat inside my case (do not confuse this with keeping the GPU itself cool, as I know they're fairly cool with the huge heatsink).

Thats why another mate is running an R9 390 on an overclocked FX6350 on a 3+ year old Antec 550W PSU.

You do realise the R9 390 cards(outside some of the MSI ones) were also a slight improvement over the R9 290/290X in actual performance/watt??

Is a 550w psu enough for the nano as Xfx website says it recommends a 750w psu

Yes. You would be fine with a decent 450W to 500W PSU. The original Nvidia Titan which consumes more power than the Nano, was used in prototype Steam Boxes made by Valve and they were using a Silverstone SFF 450W PSU with a Core i7 4770 and the SFF PSUs tend to have weaker 12V rails.

The Core i7 6700 consumes even less power than a Core i7 4770!!

Don't believe all the power supply E-PEEN.

FFS,I have an old Xeon E3 1230 V2/Core i7 3770,16GB of DDR3,SSD,a few HDDs,AIO water cooler for the CPU in a mini-ITX system, and I am lucky to break 200W at the wall if even running Crysis 3.

Your CPU consumes less power than mine, and according to TPU,the Fury Nano consumes about 80W more than my card.

So I suspect your system would be lucky to see 300W at the wall.

550 is more than enough for the Nano, taking into consideration overclocking of the CPU, Ram, and maybe the Nano, althou i wouldn't advise overclocking the Nano, having a single Fan, the thermal envelope is kinda thin, and you would have to crank up the Fan to like 100%, and that wouldn't be pleasant to hear, unless you want to add a waterloop later :D

This Is Now going to sound Stupid (ive never Gamed on a pc before) but will the games Look/play Better Than a Xbox One ??

gonna need a learning curve, but once you go PC you never go back :D
PC gaming can be more frustrating, if you dont have a stable system, but you get better looking games, mods, better multiplayer, and a lot less 13 year olds on the other end :D
