Bought a Asus Matrix ROG 980TI..disappointed

AIO EVGA.

I love the look of the Matrix Cards, but my 780ti was style over substance, plus the ROG tax makes them in the same range as an AIO card, which perform much better (20c cooler at load) and are much quieter (min fan rpm).

Best of luck

Sad thing is the matrix according to reviews is meant to be a very quiet card. Par for the course that review samples turn out to be quieter than the retail version :(

Ok, thanks.

its ok cooling. 68* in heaven 1080 Extreme/ultra 8xaa. 94 fps score.
As soon as the temp goes above 60 the fans start to rev up and its noisy. My computer is really quiet so I notice it immediately.
I had SLI MSI 970 Before that was much more quiet.

980ti is quite a loud card over all though isnt it?

Nope, my two are so quiet that I haven't bothered to watercool them despite having a pair of GPU blocks.

What temps and fan speeds are you seeing and what is your case airflow like?

If its not going over 68C then it sounds like you have some room to run a less aggressive fan curve

When i got the reference model i was dissappointed considering all the raving about how awesome nvidia stock coolers has become. So i have ripped that POS cooler off and replaced it with an MK-26 and a pair of noctua nf-12's and my god what a difference. Ofcourse the downside to this is the size of the new cooler but since i wont be going sli with maxwell i couldnt care less.

Currently im enjoying 40 degrees load temps on stock speeds and 52 degrees on my 24/7 overclock and near total silence. So quiet now that im hearing buzzing from the case instead which is driving me nuts.

The thing is I have not used any fan curve program like afterburner. Its the cards default bios that Controls the fans.

I actually tried to set the fans to max 40% in nvidiainspector and then the temps Went to 75 after some rounds in heaven benchmark.

And at 40% they are as quiet as on idle. Good so far.

Think I am going to try some overclock with fans at max 40 see how far it goes. Ok under 80 I suppose :)

Quite often the noise dramatically increases once over a certain percentage. I'd be shocked if it's as little as 40-50%. You would normally expect 60-70%+

Yep, heard quite a few different brands of 980TI and they are all what I'd call loud. Same as my 390X volume wise.

You can't get 980ti levels of performance without a 'loud' card - the 28nm process simply doesn't allow for a cool running card, hence the urgent need for 14/16nm GPU's this year.

The AIO cooled 980ti's I've heard are much quieter in game, under load, but obviously due to having a pump constantly working they are louder than air cooled cards at idle (or browsing, watching video etc). The air cooled cards all have 0DB modes where the fan's don't spin, so no AIO is going to beat that at idle at least.

Of course noise is a very subjective and personal issue. I'm quite sensitive to noise, though some of my older friends don't think a 45DB card is loud at all, though age related hearing loss helps there I think ;)

980 Ti Matrix Platinum here as well, Honestly for what it is it's pretty quiet.

I have mine on a 1:1 fan ratio and even then it's not loud BUT then again loudness is highly subjective.

What's loud to 1 person may not be loud to another :)

I did think they are squeezing an awful lot of performance out of that now.. It cant be completely silent.

Isn't the Inno3D Herulez iChill Airboss X3 GTX 980 Ti the quietest GTX 980 Ti according to the reviews?

LL

If you have a reference GTX 980 Ti I could sell you the stock cooler of my Inno3D if you want.

Yep. I built a new gaming rig with quietness being one of the key factors. I bought the palit superjestream 980ti on the basis of its supposed quiet air cooler. It's not quiet, and ran hot and loud with the fans having to go over 70%. If the fans could stay under about 55 it was pretty quiet in fairness but got too hot in my case.

So I bit the bullet and went the DIY AIO route and whacked an h55 and kraken g10 on it with some DIY heatsinks etc. It's now just what I always wanted, and much quieter.

Here she is
