Bradley Manning - 35yrs in the slammer :(

I'm sure he did know the consequences of his actions, making what he did even more important and worthy of respect, hopefully it won't deter future "traitors" from stepping forward when they realise their governments are going too far.

It takes real bravery to do what Manning did, knowing what would happen to him if he did it. The only thing he is a traitor to is a corrupt government.

Well said my friend.

He got sentenced for releasing classified government secret documents. I've signed a very similar bit of paper that he would have saying I'd receive prison sentence if I did the same.

If you were in Mannings position and seen all the footage and evidance of war crimes your Government was doing in foreign lands, you are telling us you could turn a blind eye to it?

I'd like to think not. But I'd also like to think I'd not just release a plethora of documents which had nothing to do with any war crimes, and could ultimately lead to innocent people being killed.

Who cares if "innocent people" are killed, hundreds of thousands have died because of our incompetence to hold our government to order.

A few lives lost to regain a vital societal balance is worth it.

/not even joking, exaggerating...i guess.

I'm thinking the ladyboy is going to be enjoying himself with Bubba.

Yogi bear might have a thing to say about that.

Now he's saying he's female and wants to live as a woman. Possibly an attempt to avoid going to a mens prison? I don't blame him...

Our governments are sometimes no better than the Kim Jong-un.

This is basically the State acting against the peoples will, rather than the state acting on behalf of the peoples will as it's meant to be.

What for all he did was point out illegal and corrupt actions undertaken by ultimately the us govt, in any sane society he would be a hero.

"Son, this World has walls, and those walls need to be guarded by men with guns. Who's going to do it? You?"

That's a question of perspective. You don't have the right to challenge the appropriate Secrets Act (I presume US military must have to sign as we did) as a serving member of the military.

Evil wins when good men do nothing

A pretty quote, but meaningless.

Yes he absolutely does have the right, we all have the right. We live in a democracy; which means the government - and thankfully the military - is responsible to us, not the other way round. And we have a right to question the laws that govern us.

Ordinary citizens don't have access to the level of material that someone in his position did, so just how would the world find out about levels of abuse like this without some people being willing to make a concious decision, that could not have been easy, to break their oath.
