Wow, Jesus christ, can you really imagine this ? Why was it not kept locked up? (puppy or shotgun)
I'm not really sure what to say other than harp on about out of control gun owners and a country so riddled with guns that stuff like this happens nearly everyday.
Also i'm aware the title of the thread could be deemed a little comical, that was what after all attracted me to this news article in the first place..:D
Still tragic but what can ya say.. Yeeeeehawww!

2nd Amendment Rights in action. I'm sure the NRA will visit and make good in the community. God Loves Guns Murica! Seriously what are children doing with guns. Madness !!!!!!!!!!!!

Aaaand straight to hating on guns rather than questioning why the child had access to a firearm let alone ammunition.

There is something to be said about an 11yr old being familiar with firearms and being trained in firearm safety though. Hunting might be a good hobby for some but a child isn't mature enough to understand the real dangers and implications of a weapon.

It's a sad story.

Yeah - its not unusual over there though - many will have grown up around firearms.

Funny how Canada doesn't have this problem to the same extent. Something in the mindset for sure with Americans and their god given right to them.

The mindset infuriates me lol - some fairly small common sense changes would reduce the number of firearm incidents by like something of the order of 75%, largely without any significant impact on legal gun ownership, I feel for Obama on that one.

You only have to go to a public shooting range anywhere in the USA to see some horrifically unsafe gun handling.

That said, you could see the same at any pheasant shoot run as a business.

My experience has largely been the opposite (though I don't doubt it happens) where I've been in the US awareness of the responsibility and safe handling has been high and tolerance for unsafe handling very low (seen someone escorted off site just for one momentary lapse in checking the chamber was actually empty before).

Wish I could say this surprises me but nothing does these days. :(

RIP Young'un.

This has nothing to do with the Second Amendment at which you are poking fun at, shotguns can also be obtained in this country. The parents are at fault for making firearms available to the child, something that could also happen here.

Yet strangely enough, it rarely does happen here.
Certainly in 'norn iron' someone comes to your house and ensures your weapon is securely kept, in a gun safe which is attached to the fabric of the building.
Not lying around on a table.

The problem is, the NRA and associated groups don't give a toss about gun safety, no matter what they claim, else courses in gun safety prior to ownership would be compulsory.

Really? I'm no pro-gun person but the NRA have a lot of information on gun safety and training that they disseminate. When I was in the US last year the gun safety talk was given to us even though we were not the ones with any guns! (just the ungrateful colonials who carried guns to work :p)

It's ridiculous to me that an 11 year old was even trained in "firearm safety". America is a messed up country that's for sure...
