Got to introduce some extra oily fish in my diet and picked up a pack of these during my weekly shop.

Traditional breakfast dish but wondering if would work ok for supper with maybe some sweet potate mash and steamed vegetables?

Not sure about sweet potato but with something like some boiled new pots that would be quite nice.

Any food is fine for any time of the day, just because it is served at breakfast traditionally doesn't mean you cannot have it other times!

Kippers are delicious though, a little smelly to prepare potentially.

If you want other oily fish suggestions mackerel is good as is salmon.

I agree with Tom that sweet potato may be a little odd with it though.

The smell reminds me of being on holiday when I was a kid, dad would always go out first thing and pick some up then come back and stink the place up. My mum hated it :D

The hot smoked mackerel you can pick up from the supermarket done in various flavours like peppered, with chilli etc. is great for a quick meal and tasty.

So much this.
Good any time of day, the smell is annoying though, however if you cook it properly it minimises smell, it's when fish is overcooked it gets really over powering.

New potatoes, broccoli, pretty much any fish and parsley sauce is amazing.

Make your own mackerel pate:

One pack of smoked/peppered mackerel (the stuff in the clear plastic pack with three or four fillets in)
Natural yoghurt (low fat is fine) - 3 tablespoons
Fresh squeezed lime juice

Remove mackerel skins and break them up into a food processor. Add a couple of tablespoons of yoghurt (add less cos you can always put more in later but you can't take it out), squeeze a whole lime in and blitz until you get your pate texture. If it is too thick add a bit more yog then blitz a bit more. It keeps for three or four days at least.

It's great on pitta with cucumber or on toast.
