Looking at both of these was about to go for the dell but then noticed the Asus panel .

Is it worth paying that bit extra for the Asus it reads well and the speakers are meant to be good on it to ( only need them for basic stuff)

Will only be using it for general surfing and now and again office work got an old 19" LG which I'll duel link up to watch sky go on etc .

Opinions please?

Thanks.

Can't be much help but I do have the 2414H, nice screen and image, and at the time was also torn between it and a Asus sonic master. Ended up getting the dell as it was cheaper and eventually buying dell u2414h speakers for ~£20 to mount to keep desk clutter free. Ended spending the same money as the Asus would have cost. Neither here nor there but I would prefer the integrated speakers aesthetically. No idea on the sound quality difference. The dell speakers seem pretty good for being usb powered, clear sound, can get to a decent volume, covers the mid range well, doesn't neglect the low range but no sig bass ofc.

The Dell does have more connectivity and is height/swivel adjustable with a very solid stand. The integrated usb3 hub which while fiddly to access is useful for mouse etc. Not had any issues with the screen although some report occasional issues with DP connections. Did have to connect the keyboard to the PC as sometimes would not wake when connected through the monitor, suspect it was PC related.

Considered the Dell U2515H? 1440p goodness.

Thanks for your reply yeah really stuck between these 2 to be honest just looked at what usb speaker bar you got which fits underneath the monitor i assume ?

Minstadave I really don't think i need 1440p to be honest ?

Thanks for your time and replies .

That bottom bezel is not just slightly thinner! And the back looks nicer, in my opinion. I know, I know. Who cares about either of those things? ;)

It offers a tighter factory calibration (Delta E <2 vs. <4 promised) and a superior colour gamut (99% sRGB vs. 96% specified) as well. The fact is, it uses a new panel and is currently untested. So there are many questions to be answered. But it isn't far off now and given that there is plenty of room for improvement on the U2414H it is probably worth hanging fire.

For what I need it for I'm not to fussed waiting for the next latest thing really guessing it will be more than the £200 I want to pay really , well in fairness I didn't wNt to pay much more than £150 ?

Thanks for the replies

If your budget is that tight then really you should consider the Samsung S24E390HL. Although I don't really think it's fair to recommend or discuss models not sold by overclockers. In which case, the U2414H would really be a good bet I reckon. It also offers a nice stand and good build quality that's well above others in its category. However; it stands to reason that the price of this should go down when the U2417H hits the scene, unless Dell are quick to discontinue it.

Hi

Samsung S24E390HL. isn't ips though is it ?

Thanks

It is AD-PLS, which is very similar (Samsung's version of IPS). But as I said, not really fair for me to discuss that model here.

Essentially recommending it above models that are sold by OcUK doesn't seem fair to me. If it's a model you're interested in then I do cover it extensively on my own website. It does have advantages over the U2414H as well as disadvantages, but I think I'll leave it there.

I was even looking at something like a HannsG HP245HJB 23.8" IPS Full HD Monitor at one stage to be honest and the
AOC I2481FXH 24 .

Not sure how much difference from the Dell and Asus ones there would be for web browsing etc?

Thanks

I'm currently reviewing the AOC I2481FXH, so I'd hold that thought.

Love the stand on that and seems good from the reviews I've found.

I don't mind spending the extra if I'm really going to notice but I'm unsure I will for what I require it for .

Thanks.

Design notwithstanding the Samsung is a superior solution for general desktop work, in my view, because it offers a lighter (less grainy) screen surface than the AH-IPS models of similar size. It is also set up very nicely for accurate gamma tracking, whereas that doesn't apply to the other models you're considering. Even the Dell struggles in that department unless you're using its 'sRGB' mode which has colour channels locked. Even so, the sort of gamma deviations we're talking about here are unlikely to be of particular consequence for your uses.

The stand of the AOC is excellent and it is remarkably solid (it doesn't just look and 'feel' nice). The performance is good all-around, although you will need to use an ICC profile to make the most of this. And there is a faint interlacing pattern that keen eyes may notice as will be discussed in the review.

Thanks for that reply I only run a ATI Sapphire Radeon HD 6770 though i was considering maybe to buy this https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sapp...rd-with-backplate-11242-13-20g-gx-374-sp.html if i could save some on the monitor

I'm pretty sure Dell has a tendency to price their latest panel really competitively first (at least in Asia), and raise the price if the model has a very nice feedback.

And again, it will not be far off as it is already available for purchase in Asia, and priced exactly the same as a 2414H
