Hi guys,

Long shot here, but thought it was worth an ask.

Mate of mine has an old Reliant Robin (yes I'm serious) that's sat on the driveway at the moment because it's got some issues. He's fixed up various things and it's fairly recently had a new carburetor fitted but that's where he's got issues - it fires up but revs are all over the place. The carburetor timing needs to be looked at and it needs tuning.

So, it needs to go to a garage as it's way beyond our capabilities. Does anyone know of any garages in the West Midlands, particularly around the Coventry area, that would be able to take a look at this? Obviously a place that knows and deals with classics (if you can call a Robin a classic ;)) would be preferable. Have had a bit of a Google but just thought I'd check to see if anyone has any suggestions for someone who may know their way around these things.

Cheers :)

Has he checked the float bowl is not full of rubbish from the fuel lines after standing assuming the fuel filter has been changed? Also has he put the correct oil and quantity in the dashpot?

Where in the Coventry area?

I know a couple of good garages in hinckley but there are probably a lot of places closer by that are just as competent.

Thanks for the response :) We have changed the fuel filter a little while ago - before we changed the carb over it did run and was driveable but wouldn't really do much over 60mph (probably a good thing for the safety of the driver/passengers...) but after changing the carb it's now as it is, so it's definitely got to be related to the carb timing. The old carb was quite knackered after looking at it so it did need changing. Just asked about the dashpot and apparently that was done too.

Closer to Nuneaton really so Hinckley could actually be pretty convenient :)

To be fair, it's just a plastic pig, any half competent mechanic should be able to sort it out, they are as basic as they come.

No Ecu, no fuel injection etc etc etc.

But your modern day 'fitter' would have a brain hemorrhage trying to work out where to plug in his laptop.
