I'm looking at going to York a week Saturday, will arrive early Saturday morning and leave Sunday evening. I'll be staying beside York Minster, is there somewhere to park nearby which won't cost a fortune or am I being insane?

Park in one of the nearby residential estates, only a very short walk.

Parking is crazy expensive for a full day in York, last time I went about 2 months ago it cost me £18 for all day.

If you are arriving early on Saturday, then parking will be easy to find. York doesn't really seem to wake up until about 10:00am!

If you are close to the Minster, then I'd recommend Union Terrace car park - which is my regular.

Depending on what time you arrive best bet is likely the park and ride from when I've visited York in the past.
If I remember correctly you can park at the University for free at the weekends in the pay and display car parks and the bus is pretty easy to get to the city centre.

Problem with park and ride - at least some of them close at 8pm and no overnight parking.
Or at least no picking your car up the next day as they'll have kindly clamped it for you. Best check each site if you're planning on doing that.

Overnight parking is not allowed on any Park & Ride site.
You could try parkatmyhouse or something, if it's still going. Or just park on a side street anyway/anywhere you can find a space that doesn't have a stupid residents only restriction on it. They're pretty on the ball with violations of those, apparently.

I know overnight parking is allowed near/behind the Wetherspoons pub thing near Clifford's Tower. That as near an NCP car park that didn't. Don't recall the street. but it was something like no max. stay (pay as long as you need up to xxx hours and then overnight was about £4

If you don't need to drive then as someone else has said, get the train. I have done Edinburgh to London and the trip from Ed to York was really nice.
