Hitman and AMD in DX12 partnership

Could it have just been lazy development with the over use of tessellation?

I don't think lazy development can be used to account for the over use of tess in blocks, It could be used for the water not being cut to size though. Conveniently that is :D

Isn't the Witcher hair an example of over use for little to no gain too?

Yeah, given that pretty much every game which has had gameworks has used over-tessellated effects with little to no visual difference i.e. fallout 4 god rays, the witcher 3 hairworks, crysis 2 as above etc. I think there is more to it than just the developers.

As someone hinted before, it isn't unusual for companies to play to their strengths and concentrate on their rivals weaknesses.

There are actually a lot of good articles on this from CEO's of various companies and their thought process and competitiveness etc. i.e.

All I can say is thank god for having tessellation control in AMD crimson control panel :p

+1 :D

I'm not looking for a reaction, I'm just airing my views. There's reasons AMD tiles run well, and thats generally because there is nothing in them to go wrong. All AMD do is stick their name on an AAA title. Nothing more.

First you say you won't have anything to do with it because its sponsored by AMD... and then then you go and say that AMD do nothing more than slap a sticker on it? So what is the point of your objection if they run equally the same on either platform?

You're making even less sense than usual.

Oh no, nvidia dirty tactics alert again with no proof whatsoever  Every thread seems to be the same these days.

Hitman could be a good game if done right, if it's like the last one Then I got bored very quickly.

Marcin Momot

CD PROJEKT RED:

Many of you have asked us if AMD Radeon GPUs would be able to run NVIDIA’s HairWorks technology – the answer is yes! However, unsatisfactory performance may be experienced as the code of this feature cannot be optimized for AMD products. Radeon users are encouraged to disable NVIDIA HairWorks if the performance is below expectations.

Hope this information helps.

Not allowing a dev to optimise code on the competitions hardware isn't dirty tacticts?

What part of that isn't proof?:D

Indications so far suggest it's more like Blood Money than Absolution, which is superb news. Absolution often felt like you were just trying to take the quickest path through the level, instead of actually getting the chance to explore it properly and use it to your advantage.

It says the code cannot be optimised for Amd products ( many reasons why )
it does not say it's because nvidia won't allow it.

It's code so why can't it be made to run better on AMD hardware?

It obviously can through a lot of trouble on the AMD side as they do gain performance just not as fast as would be liked. From what i gather they gain performance through guess work as to what works best hence the time. The performance on most Gameworks games is pretty good on Amd it just takes a while for them to get there. Basically Amd working through the Black Box that is Gameworks.

I don't know, I am not a Dev. If someone comes out and says nvidia is dirty and with proof then we can all pounce on them, until then it is a none issue until proven to be true.

I'd like Amd to be able to use all gameworks features and optimise for it but neither company are charities.

They do come out and say Nvidia is dirty-the diehards make excuses.

Who do theses excuses come from?

Why anyone excuses it I honestly cannot comprehend, the more people speak out about it the bigger the GW's performance stain gets.

Dodgy is dodgy-hence the Tess slider introduced for Nv users in W3 as they don't have a driver level Tess over ride switch-and not likely to get one from Nvidia either.

Incredible! I post a thread bigging up AMD and Hitman and it has now turned into GameWorks and how dirty NVidia are. Can't you just stick to the topic at hand?

is greg running for mod or something
whats going on >.<

Just fed up of having threads ruined by the same few people. Hitman has nothing to do with GameWorks, it is a game being sponsored by AMD and one that really interests me. It is good to see AMD getting behind this as well as they have been rather quiet on the sponsorship front of late, so some publicity will do them no harm (and probably some good). The same few people turn thread after thread on its head and before you know it, we have page after page of off topic conspiracies and anything else other than the actual topic the OP was on about.

Greg was already a mod lol. Bad move as he likes to air his views which is not easy representing a hardware company. Being a mod would stop him from airing his full opinion. There's no pay so if opinionated it's probably the worst thing you can do on a forum like this when you want to speak your mind.

hehe i never knew that
im guessing it didnt last long

but anyway greg i was only poking fun a little, i thought u use to enjoy it :)

All good and I am a bit stressed today but pay me no mind. And yer, I was a mod and it used to kill me seeing debates that I love talking about and couldn't really join in as I get a bit passionate, so would rather be a grunt and just speak my mind, so stepped down :D

It does get boring though going over the same thing again and again like Hitman for example... It is a game being written for DX11 and also coming with DX12 and AMD are heavily involved with developers on site. AMD could well use plenty of ACE to screw over NVidia and I wouldn't blame them if they did lol but as we all know, AMD are the good guys, so I wouldn't expect that to happen. And if DX12 is an afterthought in this (which I assume it is), I am not sure what it will add over DX11, although talk on the streets is more detail but time will tell on that.

Now if people want to discuss that, I am in but GameWorks again? No thanks!

Much like LambChop did earlier, you have a habit of pointing fingers at the wrong people when others start it, I'm sorry if you find the topic off, Dp(yet again) then Ian lit the touchpaper not me, take it up with them if you have a problem.
