I just noticed that both of my cards are only running x8/x8 pcie .

my motherboard is the Godlike gaming .

i have the cards in slot 1 and 3 ..but looking at the internet they should be in 1 and 4 slot to get x16/x16 .. now if i did 1 and 4 slot the sli bridge would not fit (msi dual slot long) , i would have thought i would have at least got x16/x8 in the config if have .this pains me now as its all under water . is there actaully any difference ? im trying to bench and get good scores but the scores im getting should be beating other scores ive seen (heaven bench on this forum with other benchmarks ) as my clocks and cpu are higher but i get lower scores than others on here . i then check GPUZ and then seen the x8/x8 pcie lanes .

This is why I just bought a Rampage V Extreme rather than the MSI Gaming. I'll also be using M.2 SSD, so had to go the extra for 40 lanes over 28.

It's easy to get caught out with these things, and I feel for you considering the work you've just put in and then seeing this.

It's an easy fix though, just get some draining done and switch them about.

Your first card should run at 16x even if the other card is in slots 4 or 5

See this article
http://www.hardwareasylum.com/reviews/motherboards/msi_x99_godlike/page6.aspx

Try using GPUZ to check the PCI speed
Have you checked your mobo BIOS to see if the lanes are at 16x

That link is wrong .my slots are 1 to 5 not 1 to 7 ..I've checked and they say pcie 1 2 3 4 5 .and in the manual it says this.

See this link paragraph 5 http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/72...ming-intel-x99-motherboard-review/index2.html

My cards should be in 1 and 4 slot ..using the 3rd slot cuts both in half as its not meant to be used .

I used gpuz thats how I found out i was at 8x/8x ..and did the test too .I Googled it and others who have done the same have done it as it's msi problem as there sli gaming bridge Long only fits for 1 and 3 slot and getting this to go with the build thought Hay 1 and 3 must do 16x/16x ..my problem now is also finding a bridge (not flexi ) to go 1 and 4 slot and a problem getting a 4 slot parallel water bridge .but the latter can be solved by using Hardline Tubing .and would also need to bend new tubes for the graphics to cpu and bottom rad to graphics .and it's all just for benching as games it won't notice .

And it was only last week I drained it to put new 5960x J batch chip in ..cpu drain was worth it ..getting 4.75hz at 1.27v .

But draining it again ..I might just leave it for a month or 2 as I will be moving house as I will then just strip the lot and give it a good clean and then may add another 980ti sc.

But damn MSI for doing that .

It could be something wrong with the graphic card too. I've got the same problem on my Asus Rampage v extreme and 3 980tis too. I put them in the correct pcie slots but I got 16x/8x/4x. Firstly I thought it was something wrong with the motherboard. I updated the bios, used GPUz to check pcie lanes, etc, which didn't help. Then I found out that my third card always run half pcie lanes! It's running 8x of its own. I RMAed it and got a replacement. Now everything works fine. It's lucky of me finding the problem before I put them all under water.

I have now sorted the problem out .

I have had to order new parts as i do have to have the cards on 1 and 4 slots .

I will only have to cut a bit off the hardline tubing thats going from bottom rad to the terminal so an easy fix overall . and will do this over the next 10 days or when i can be bothered to drain the system .
