Hi everyone,

Well, at the ripe age of 35 I am finally joining the masses and a proud owner of an old 2002 MK 4 Golf but have a question about getting rid of old paint chips and specifically a small stone dent on the front of the bonnet.

Is it possible to fill then touch up paint over them fairly cheaply?

Here she is, i've named her Elsie after my current favourite ale... Elsie Mo.

For stone chips you can get the correct touch up paint online or at a VW dealer using your registration or VIN number. If it's actually a dent then you will need the services of a professional and not worth it for a car of that value. Very easy to be tempted to spend small amounts of money at a time, repeatedly fixing little things and before you know it you've spent a sizeable chunk of the initial purchase price for stuff that probably doesn't matter. I know, I've done it enough times!

Touch up stick from Halfords or the like and a bit of T-Cut.
If this doesn't do it, it's more hassle and more cost than it's worth putting in, IMO.

Looks tidy enough as is, upsettingly probably a quicker car than my GTI too :p

Great nick for the year.

Test drove all sorts and enjoyed driving this the most. Just have to be careful, can see how people rack up points owning motors like this. Effortless to pull away in most situations.

I try hard to drive like a grandad, but even the slightest heavy touch on the accelarator and it zips off before I have a chance to change my undies.

Damn diesels... always feel faster than they are. Not slating the car at all, but the power delivery is sudden and gives the car the feeling of a rocket ship.

I remember my first ride as a passenger in a brand new 130hp version when they had come out about 15 years ago. Felt way faster than anything I'd experienced, although it wasn't! :)

Enjoy!

Well, it is rapid between 30-60 which is unfortunate in that it's the graveyard zone for people getting tickets.

Sounds like a spaceship tractor or something. :D
