Hows everyone's Jan diet going? :p

my problem is i cant eat my recommended calories because i suffer from acid reflux, so i always feel too tired from eating to less when working out, really annoying problem to have

I've just completed my second full week and lost a total 0.0 pounds.

The only thing that's changed is that I've eaten more pasta this week when I had eaten rice and sweet potato the previous week. I'm going to try to stick to cous cous, brown rice and sweet potato for carbs this week and see how that works.

Have you been to the drs? There's plenty of medications that can effectively reduce or eliminate acid reflux.

Progress is slow. Total weight loss since 7th Jan: 3/4 stone. Not impressed.

Looks like I have to commit to this for the long haul. Initial aim of losing 2 stone by end of March looks unrealistic.

So you've lost about 4.7kg in 6 weeks, 0.78Kg/week, that's actually really good and just about keeping within the confines of healthy weight loss.

I wouldn't and don't want to call it a diet but I drastically changed my habits at the end of November after having been diagnosed type 2 diabetic. My HbA1c was 52. I was in denial about it for some time but something hit home around then. I became an uncle for the first time and wanted to be around to see him grow up!

Over time I've drastically reduced the amount of junk food, eating until 'not hungry' rather than until full but eating whatever I want rather than completely cutting things out of my diet. I have reduced the amount of carb intake though and introduced a lot more whole lower GI foods such as oats, pulses, fruit, veg and salad but I never go hungry. I don't really count my calories as I'm dropping weight and think i'm doing the right things.

I've also started going for lots of walks, now at least half an hour a day but 5-7 miles a couple of times every week. From 16 stone 11lbs at the end of November, I'm now 14 stone 6lbs. My resting heart rate has dropped from a disgustingly unhealthy 100+ bpm to 60-65. I've recently had my HbA1c retested and it's now under pre-diabetic levels which I'm extremely happy about.

I'm sleeping a lot better, feel more focussed, energetic and generally a lot better about myself. I'll be joining the gym soon and getting back on the bike. My target is the Ealing half marathon in September and hope to get round the course without stopping for walks!

Good for you :)

OK then.

The only real reference I have was the last weight loss attempt I tried. That was using Alternate Day Fasting. Lost easily over a stone a month doing that.

I guess that's why the current loss seems slow.

Trouble is losing that much weight so soon will eat into your lean body mass, essentially this means you're not just losing body fat but you'll be losing some muscle as well.

If i'm wrong, someone feel free to correct me.

Better to go slow and steady imo.

Put on half a stone for Christmas. It's gone again.

Overall context down from 19 1/4 stone to 16 stone in around a year and a half (I'm 6'1"). I basically eat a reasonalby high protein, nutritionally dense diet, aiming for around 1800kcal on weekdays. For weekends I relax and have what I want. Every weekend I gain around 4-6lbs (probably mainly glycogen and water) and then usually lose a little more during the week.

Gym usually 2-3 times a week. Mostly cardio but enough weights to hopefully minimise LBM loss..

Meh, weighed myself today and I'm 1/4 stone heavier than yesterday :p

I swear someone is spiking my salads with lard.

Just broke the 80KG mark, 79.8KG this morning. Really happy considering I was up over 85KG before christmas.

I've still been eating take out, kebabs, pizza, ice cream, all the foods I like when i want, just not to excess. I follow the IIFYM principal and don't go over 1800 calories/day averaged over the week.

ie: If I ate 2500 calories today, i'd be 700 over, i'd ensure the rest of the week i was ~116 calories under per day.

I also stopped drinking alcohol, I believe this has had a far bigger impact than the calorie counting tbh. Gone from 4/5 strong ciders (Westons, 8.2%) a weekend to 3 bottles since the new year.

Only another 4.8KG to go.

Based purely on the kcals alone and ignoring the other effects alcohol has on your metabolism that's basically a whole extra days worth of kcals gone a week, a lot of people don't realise just how many calories are in drinks in general not just alcohol.

I do miss it, I never drank it to get drunk, I just love the taste of Westons reserve cider.

However my sleep patterns were terrible, it would leave me aching in my knees (only ever got that after drinking cider) and i would feel lethargic for days after.

In 6 months I've gone from 14st 9 to 12st 8 (25lb loss) ....height 5'11, age 44

Body fat 29.2% to 21.6%
BMR from 1947 to 1819
Metabolic age from 59 to 42
Visceral Fat (beer belly) from 12 to 8
BMI 28.3 to 24.4

Lose a average 1.2lb a week

Done by swimming approx 8-10 miles a week over 5 days (1000-1200 cals burnt per day), don't eat snacks during day and keep cals low with healthy breakfast and lunch plus no more sugar in tea and coffee. Then eat whatever I want in evening and weekends. Cut back a little on wine also

Had to throw out ALL my clothes, gone from 38" to 34" jeans, all my XL tshirts to Medium.

Just a hint of beer belly to shift :)

Goes to show you just need to do some cardio and eat like a normal person :)
