Hi all, I am running 2 x windforce 7950 cards, and sometimes games can be a pita as some done like the crossfire.

If I was to sell these cards and buy a single gpu

what card would give a good performance increase with out braking the bank

thanks
ian

bang for the buck at the moment is 390 for £250 or Fury Nano for £350, top perf 980Ti (costume) for £550

A 390 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sapp...rd-with-backplate-11244-01-20g-gx-373-sp.html

or a 970 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/gain...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-197-gw.html

would do you proud

but as mentioned if you can add another 140 quid a Nano would be good, However I question why Nano's have become that cheap. Is it a noisy card? There must be a reason the price has dropped as far as it has. It's gone back up by 30 quid but it's still 30 quid cheaper than the cheapest Fury which has a cut down version of the chip. I'd want to know why before spending that much. There where reports of whine issues so if you do consider the Nano look into it before buying.

I wouldn't advice for GTX970 these days, when many games use more than 3.5GB VRAM.

Using a GTX970 with a 1440p monitor and I've still not noticed this actually being an issue. It's happily ripped through some of the latest titles including the Witcher 3 and Assassins Creed Unity on max settings without the VRAM becoming an issue.

a single 970/390 is not an upgrade over 2x 7950's. damn sight less hassle though.

if you want upgrade, you need to be looking at 980ti levels of performance.

That's all fine but the question is would you recommend the 970 over the 390 knowing that upcoming games will have higher VRAM requirements? If buying new I wouldn't recommend any 4GB now unless you can get it cheap.

4GB is simply not going to be enough for many games in a year or two. Some games right now need more than that for very high textures

Yer, CF and SLI have not been the best examples of MGPU of late. A 390 or 970 will be on a par with your CF 7950s with games that use CF. If I was going from what you have, I would look to a 980Ti or not bother. The Nano is a bit of a cheaper upgrade but as Panos said earlier, games are using over 3.5GB at 1440P, so that rules out all of the Fiji cards (Nano/Fury/Fury X).

Edit:

If however you are using 1080P, the Nano would be a tidy buy at £350 but it isn't going to be that much faster over your cards in games that CF scale well.
