Just not my day!

How would you all feel if the OP parked where he is now but just on the road?
There's no markings on the floor, he's past the curb and he's left enough room on the pavement for a pram/wheelchair therefor not obstructing the path.

OT - I'd be raging it they put a bus stop in front of my house :(

It could be a van or lorry that has just stopped in the bus stop/layby whilst, eating, texting, jacking off, missed the roundabout turn etc, and has hit you driving off, yes it could be a bus too, but it might not. Unless the bus company have done it and fess up your stuffed I think.

Indeed. :(

It's not your god given right to park outside your house. Buy a house with a driveway if it's that important or if you can't park directly outside due to things like bus stops, pavements and all those other inconsiderately placed things you could try parking further away (legally) and walking.

fine, because its a road and that's where he should be parking.

What's illegal about it?

Further down the street the pavement has been removed and bays installed. The council did not do this out side my house and the neighbours. No objections form Police Bus company or council to where we park.

****e parking is just that though, it might not be illegal but its still asking to be swiped by a drivers who been on the round for 6 hours straight.

If its as you claim then i'd get a drop curb sorted and park on your front garden, cheap easy fix and no chance of another incident.

I'd certainly of tried to get the bus stop moved though, would be a right pain having the great unwashed stood on your doorstep.:)

So many numpties whining about his parking. What part about it not being a legal bus stop and the council are happy for him to park on the pavement are you not getting? He could easily park on the road and be an inconsiderate plank.

To answer your question OP I would wait until the bus company get back and then take it all the way if they deny it before hitting up your insurance.

Crap parking or not, there is no excuse for hitting a stationary object. As above wait for the bus company to get back to you and take it from there

Parking is not the problem its the eyesight of the driver that went into your car that is the issue.

All round the OP''s with angle grinders, lets chop the bottonm of the "bus stop" and let the ****** take it away.

He's already said.... it's not a bus stop,
I don't see in my quoted post where I mentioned it was a given right to park outside my house? I simply stated I wouldn't be happy with a bus stop bing erected outside of it, with all the noise and random strangers peering into your windows that it would bring. Would likely be an instant impact on the desirability of the premises too.

Ok, now how many of you are gonna claim ***** parking yer own fault mate, for parking CLOSE to a bus stop?

That's the point I was trying to make haha

Thanks for the support and suggestions. I'll give them until lunch time tomorrow.

Since my last post I had a phone call from my solicitor (different matter) and when I explain to him why I arranged the phone call and not gone into his office, having to stay home and make calls, he kindly offered free of charge to write to the bus company a strongly worded letter requesting they make every effort to find the CCTV of the incident. Nice bloke.

I am with the OP and those that see incompetent driving is the issue here, I see no issue with that parking and I would happily do the same as I am sure most other people would if they lived there!! Ridiculous statements like buy another house etc etc... come on people, what planet are some of you on? We make the most of what we have!

I would most definitely persue the bus company but I'd be reluctant to hold back informing insurance for too long... if you intend to claim via them I guess.

I have informed them but asked them to wait until I hear from the bus company. They will either cover it under my fully comprehensive policy or chase the bus company. Worse case I'm £200 down and a week or so in a courtesy car. So I'm covered just don't want to claim on my own policy if I don't have to. The letter offer is a big help if they give me the brush off.

As a bus driver I can assure you that if a bus has hit your car the bus company will tell you and won't try to cover it up, it's a legal requirement for all CCTV to be kept for a period of time(so no erasing it), what I would do if I was you, is stand out tomorrow morning and note all the buses that go past up until the time you came out to find the damage, then go to the company and ask them to check the CCTV on all the buses that were on that route at the time. Bus company's set aside thousands each month for things like this.

Thanks, When I spoke to the bus company, they said they would check all the buses on that route this morning. Also speak to all the drivers. Now whether I believe this will actually happen without the letter, I'm not sure. Speaking to others who have dealt with this company or worked their. They suggest I'll likely get the brush off at first. To see if I go away, sort of "Prove it, mate" reply.

They did provide insurance details without being asked, although I was getting to that part. Wouldn't admit liability though. Fingers crossed they surprise me.

Unlikely - they will need them all out making money.

As already stated this kind of thing happens to bus companies all the time, they're fairly unlikely to actively hide anything, however you are relying on the person you actually speak to making a reasonable effort to find out what happened.

Start putting things in writing pretty quickly if you don't get anything back tomorrow and it's always worth looking out yourself for a damaged vehicle- not that this proves the same bus hit your car
