Excluding rewards, add-ons, bolt ons, goody bags, etc. is Three the cheapest network?

According to their site: calls cost 3p, texts 2p and 1p/mb. I've looked at the other major networks and they all seem significantly more expensive (30p calls, 14p texts). Is there a catch? Am I missing something? Are Three really that cheap?

Almost all PAYG plans include free stuff which is more important than cost per text etc imho !

Eg £10 on O2 gets you 250 minutes, 1000 texts and 500mb data, which I never exceed so costs outside of that are irrelevant to me. On the 3 plan you mention you pay for everything which would work out more expensive for most.

Three has cheap data tbh per mb

But pay as you go bundles work out better than 3s. I've just changed

I'm now on a more expensive tariff if I exceed my allowance.. But I get 3000mins and unlimited texts and 3gb data for 12 pounds per month.. I'm never going to exceed that

I don't think anybody has no 'extras' unless you're using your phone as an emergency phone or something

People on PAYG usually have varying usage patterns or low usage patterns.

The OP could end up paying less than £10 a month.

The O2 tariff is only better if the OP uses 167 minutes + 500MB. Otherwise they save money for any lower usage.

On 3 PAYG, you also get 150mb free each time you top up. Once you've registered a credit card with them you can top up £5 at a time.

For my usage it's hard to beat it. I rarely make long phone calls, send a handful of texs a month and keep a good deal of my data usage on wi-fi. Most months I spend somewhere from £4-10. And if I anticipate heavy usage the following add ons are available (which I've never actually needed):

All in One 10 - 500MB data, 100 mins, 3000 texts £10
All in One 20 - All-you-can-eat data, 300 mins, 3000 texts £20 (only this one actually makes sense IMO)
All in One 25 - All-you-can-eat data, 500 mins, 3000 texts £25

Yeah I'm on that 3 tariff. Average £4 a month, mainly on data (just a bit of browsing on my lunch break). You get 150mb free with every £5 topup. Suits me fine, there are some cheap £5-6 monthly contracts out there from resellers that might be better value I guess.

Another light user on it here, for me I spend comfortably under £5 a month, often closer to half that as the bulk of my usage is data and 99% of the time I've got wifi, so for me the top-up based options on other networks don't even come close, but can see how they would with higher usage.

I have occasionally used top-ups when I know I will be using a lot of data, and/or to take advantage of the 'feel at home' roaming stuffs, but that's once or twice a year.

I'm a light user too, just the occasional text message. Three sounds like the right network for me. Thanks.

Free allowances on 3, included in top ups and add-ins last 30 days.

Actual credit lasts indefinitely.
