I know this kind of thing will have happened to others on here in the past. I would be happy to pay if fee made any sense, but this is 6 times the value of the item.

Is it possible to challenge it?

Otherwise I will just leave the item, request a refund and order from a supplier definitely in the UK.

Lol, Tell royal mail to go shove it.

£8 of that is the handling fee, so I'm not sure how they managed to make percentage based calculations come out at more than the items worth!?

Also that's well under the threshold for any duty anyway, so I don't know what they're playing at.

Sounds to me that the supplier may have declared the value of the item higher than what it actually was, possibly for insurance.

You should be able to challenge the charge, your item way under the threshold for fees so if you visit their depot with proof of the purchase and the item value then they should be able to cancel the fee.

I agree that I SHOULD be able to do that, but do to have any experience of successfully doing so? The depot is a 20min drive, so not really worth my time or petrol money!

I don’t believe my item should have incurred a Customs charge, what should I do?

If,after paying for your item, you believe the charges have been wrongly applied we recommend you contact Border Force. If your challenge is successful, the charges will be refunded. If Border Force were responsible for the original charging error, the refund will also include our £8.00 handling fee .If however, the goods have been mis-declared the RM handling fee will be non-refundable. Details on how to challenge the charges can be found on the HM Revenue & Customs Opens in new window website.

HM Revenue & Customs is the main point of contact for enquiries about why items are charged, what the charges are, and general customs advice. For more information, please see Notice 143 on the HM Revenue & Customs Opens in new window website.

From Wizardskills link, don't bother going to the depot they'll probably just stare at you until you go away as they won't have the authority to do anything about it.

Just what.

EU will likely be a cure for this issue. At some point they'll likely get round to declaring these ha fling fees insane.

And op makes no sense. As said handling fee, plus percentage, which is more than item is worth.

He wont pay duty on an import from within the eu which was what I was reminding him as he appeared to think he only had one alternate course of action.

Do you open your gob like that when people suggest an eu option for importing Chinese phones?

He's actually agreeing with you.

Your original post just looked like rubbish which could have been taken in a LOLEU way which it appears to have been.

When I started it I was the only poster other than the op but the 2nd poster beat me to 2nd place in 2nd my post would have made more sense.

I wouldn't bother for 2 quid. I'd just forget about it. It's probably going to be much more hassle than its worth
