Can normal or emergency dentists remove a wisdom tooth?

Had a normal tooth taken out a few years ago just at my dentist. Took maybe 10 minutes to get it out. But it took a solid 30/45 minutes to reach the point where I was injected enough to be numb. I just kept taking hits and it was doing nothing. Think I had 7/8 injections before I was numb.

Surprised at the whole thing tbh. Once in the chair I just closed my eyes let him tug my jaw around a bit then next thing I knew he was holding a tooth dripping with blood in front of me. And it's at that point you realise your bleeding and have a hole in your gum haha.

All I had was a bit of jaw ache for a few hours after the numbing wore off.

If it's too much pain and you can't get it fixed soon, warm salt water works, CLOVE OIL IS A GODSEND! Takes horrendous but still. I actually had tooth ache at one point where wishing ice cold water around my mouth got rid of any pain at all it was wonderful. But as soon as I spat it out or swallowed it came straight back.

Argh, tooth ache is the worst! Seems to have gone from waves of pain to almost constant. I don't think I am sleeping tonight. Paracetamol does precisely nothing .

Thanks for the suggestions, i'll give the salt water a try in a min. Have no clove oil, but i remember that stuff from when I had tooth ache as a kid. Tastes so weird but does actually help.

Have you any ibuprofen, and no stomach issues, if so it is an antiinflammatory, and may help somewhat with the pain.

If it is wisdom tooth pain, of the type pericoronitis - pain when you prod around the gum around the wisdom tooth and when you bite together - save your money and don't buy clove oil.

Had mine removed in hospital, had to have a general and wasn't pleasant. I had to have all 4 removed though, so don't know if it's different for just one.

I had one done in a dental surgery, they packed me off home without medication and the hole started bleeding when I got home. Another got done in hospital under general anaesthetic. The hospital bit was fine but the recovery took another ten days.

:D.

I rung them on sat morning but they weren't open, so managed to get an appointment for tomorrow. They said on the phone they don't remove wisdom teeth, but if the dentist thinks that it needs removing they have a specialist they get in to do that. So hopefully it should be sorted this week.

Has your pain subsided, or did you get some medication?
For an emergency pain appointment, a wednesday doesn't seem to be the swiftest of service, or did things ease off in between times?

I've had 2x Wisdom teeth out.

One i had to go into hospital and spend half the day there because it was so deep,The other i went to a dental surgeon and was in and out within 20-30 mins.

My Mum gave me some pain killers that I have had in the past when I had shingles. I know you're not suppose to have medication that isn't for you but the pain was getting really bad over the weekend. I'll let the dentist know tomorrow in case it interferes with anything he prescribes.

Having wisdom teeth removed if over 30 can be very painful and damaging.

Bottom ones tend to be very close to nerves and for the top ones you need to watch the sinuses this is why they tend to send people to hospital.

Cheers for that! :(

The dentist seemed to think it was the bottom wisdom tooth and took a full xray and referred me to a specialist, so should hear back soon. Luckily the pain has gone now.
