Yer nan's knickers
Let me preface this by saying I'm used to the London bus driver attitude of shutting doors when you're 1ft away from getting on, pulling off without letting all passengers off, that kind of ******** attitude. It's part of living in London sadly, but you learn to live with it.

This morning however was a completely different story. The bus was standing at his stop which is on a dual carriageway. He sees me running to him from his 2'o'clock angle, at which point he shuts his doors and pulls off. I then run right in to his path waving my arms and he swerves his bus right across two lanes to avoid having to let me on. Now it might sound like "hurrr you ran in to the path of an oncoming bus" but at that point he was barely moving.

I got on the next bus which luckily had a driver in a hurry and caught up with the first bus at Brixton. I got on his bus and took a photo of the bus ID plate and tried to take a photo of the driver which he refused by putting his hands on the glass. I told him he put my life at risk and those of all his passengers to which his reply was "I don't give a **** mate" and tried to shut the doors with me still on the bus. I pressed the emergency door open and got off and he sped off in to the early morning sun like a scalded cat, again driving like a nutter.

I'm going to put a freedom of information request in to get the footage from the front of the bus to show just how dangerous this guy is, and escalate it.

For about a decade now I've shrugged these guys off. They're all rude, obnoxious, racist scumbags who seem to get pleasure out of being ***** to the general public, an they all have one thing in common: They all work for Arriva.

I'm pursuing it this time. I pay a lot of money to use these services and quite frankly if I were to treat even one of my customers like this I'd be out of a job the same day.

Stay tuned.

While running into the path of a moving bus is never the greatest idea if people don't take a stand against bad employee's of any kind then nothing will ever change.

I doubt anything will come of your complaint, Arriva don't have the best customer service attitude and a massive shortage of drivers throughout the UK in general means they get stuck with all sorts of idiots.

just to play devils advocate your sentence could easily be seen as

I then run right in to his path waving my arms and he swerves his bus right across two lanes to avoid having to let me on.

and this could back fire on you for, actually i dont know is there a law against running into the path of vehicles forcing them to take evasive action?

Private companies are not subject to the freedom of information act.

https://www.gov.uk/request-cctv-footage-of-yourself

ou have the right to request closed circuit television (CCTV) footage of yourself.

The CCTV owner must provide this within 40 days, and can charge up to £10.

You need to make a request in writing to the owner of the CCTV system. The owner’s details are usually written on a sign attached to the camera, unless the owner is obvious (like a shop).

You should tell them you’re requesting information held about you under the Data Protection Act, and provide information to help them identify you, like:

a specific date and time
proof of your identity
a description of yourself

The CCTV owner must provide you with a copy of the footage that you can be seen in. They can edit the footage to protect the identities of other people.

The CCTV owner can invite you to a viewing of the footage if:

they’re unable to provide you with the footage itself
you agree with that arrangement

They can refuse your request if sharing the footage will put a criminal investigation at risk.

I think you're more likely to end up facing charges for running onto a dual carridgeway and endangering the lives of a busful of passengers, because that's exactly how it'll be reported.

Yes, everyone in London hates each other....live with it or leave.

EDIT: In reply to Tefal:

Exactly, I've already seen where I stand legally. I made it sound like I ran towards a bus at full speed in the OP, it really wasn't like that at all, the guy floored it when I was about 10ft away from the bus, being standstill prior to that. Come on guys, I'm not that stupid :p

Anyway, I took a photo of myself in the exact clothing I had on so I can present it to them and say "this is what I looked like this morning" so they have no escape.

Thing is, I've dealt with the scumbags that are Arriva numerous times in the past and each time they make it abundantly clear that they just don't give a toss, so this time I'm going for them. My main road is served by three or four different companies, and every time there are issues, it's always Arriva. Every single time.

so when you were in front of the bus would you say he swerved out into traffic so you were no longer in front of the bus and in its path?

cause thats how the company will play it along with "due to safety reasons busses cannot stop outside official stopping points" followed by "ahh so you're the guy that hit the emergency door open button with a fine for improper use...heres your fine"

i sympathise with this. I've been many bus drivers who are ******** (and also some nice ones) but unfortunately i doubt this will go very far.

From what you've said, it sounds like the guy is pretty miserable in his job and clearly takes no pride in it. Personally, that'd be enough for myself and i'd just get on with my life.

This although it's got to be remembered they can't supply if they haven't got it.. Like faulty cctv kit. I'd suggest the OP didn't mention the incident when requesting otherwise this data might suddenly no longer be held.

they may have issues with their insurance if their cameras aren't working.

Good old private sector. Using three or four companies to fail at a job that the government managed to do properly with one.

Well done, private sector. Well done you.

Overclockers UK Forums > Life > General Discussion > Late for my bus, who can I sue after endangering my own life?

^^ Also this.

Regardless of what it sounds like during the first round, his attitude is clearly shown in the second. Sounds like a total asshat that could cause someone harm some day - good for you OP.

I would just drop it and move on.
The cctv will have been out of action that day and when you say he floored it...
not really super cars are they, they make a lot of noise but dont actually move very fast.

Just to make this very clear, I was crossing the road when the bus started moving, not I started crossing the road when the bus was moving.

This guy was an absolute ******** and he knows it. This was a very deliberate move just to prove a point, there was plenty space on the bus, and if they want to play the timetable card I'll be more than happy to go down that route as their timetable isn't worth the paper it's written on.
