Just not my day!

If you've already told your insurance company then won't your renewal price go up anyway?

They ask if you've had an accident in the past x years, not have you made a claim. Hence renewals going up even when you're involved in a non fault accident.

If the bus company accept it was them, I will let them handle it and only notify my insurance. If they don't accept then I'll either have to get my insurance to chase them, or take the hit on my comprehensive insurance. I still have to notify them don't have to let them handle the claim. Less they do the less my premium goes up.

That the reason i'm waiting and the insurance company is happy to wait.

So many numpties whining about his parking. What part about it not being a legal bus stop and the council are happy for him to park on the pavement are you not getting? He could easily park on the road and be an inconsiderate plank.

To answer your question OP I would wait until the bus company get back and then take it all the way if they deny it before hitting up your insurance.

It's the risk of parking there more than anything else. Only a matter of time before the inevitable bump, scrape etc

I suggest it was the tail swing of the bus behind the back axles. Expecting the bus driver to monitor that corner keenly as well as trying to get out into traffic is probably right, but you are parked much closer to the kerb than the bus stop itself.

I think that you are parking discourteously if not dangerously. Your car is not too high to obscure people waiting but if it was an MPV, van or 4x4 would you still park it there?

The bus driver should as a matter of course check his mirrors as he pulls out as he'd be only too aware that his rear end will swing and potentially catch anything close to the stop, whilst I very much doubt it was deliberate on his part, he may have been having a bad day....

Assuming the busses in the OP's area are red then I'd guess thats what hit him, equally though it could have been any large red vehicle that did the deed and proving it could well be a challenge!

Personally, I wouldn't park anywhere near somewhere a large vehicle needs to access, I drive large vehicles......

If it was the tail end of the bus, i'm not sure if their on-board cameras would have captured that angle.

I think they'll end up coming back saying couldn't find any footage, and none of the drivers have mentioned hitting anything.

I think they have a camera pointing out of the back, so might be OK.

After sleeping on it and phoning the bus company, I've told my insurance to go ahead and fix my car. They will at first contact the bus company and request any info they may have. I know I said I'd wait until lunch today, but it needs to get fixed whether they own up or not and that's what I pay insurance for, so let them sort it. If unsuccessful it will go down as an at fault accident.

Would you belive, when I phoned the bus company, the gent I spoke to yesterday is now off for the next few days. The person I spoke too today was telling me all the things the other guy should have done. Hopefully the requests got sent and they find the incident and own up.

Waiting for a phone call to sort collection of my car a delivery of courtesy car.

Unless as mentioned it was the postman's van?........Ah ****

Up go my premiums.

Since when was it OK to park on a pavement

I remember researching this when parents would park on the pavement outside the nursery forcing pedestrians to walk in the road.

There need to be restrictions for parking on the road then cars can 'legally' park on the pavement.

As the OP has said it technically isn't a bus stop. A bus stop would have double yellow lines etc.

The OPs car does look too close to the kerb and the bus shelter. But he's been parking there for years before the council / bus company put up an unofficial bus shelter. Parking that close to the kerb is the same risk you take when you park badly in a narrow street.

To those whinging that he's parked on the pavement, why was the bus that far over the kerb it was able to hit his car? What about if it had been a person stood against the edge of the pavement... Hope you get a response from the bus company

Overhang at the back of the bus probably did it when it pulled away, as mentioned.

Similar principle to going up the inside/outside of a lorry when it is turning.

Two phone calls today.

One from the garage, car is getting picked up on Monday and courtesy car delivered at the same time.

The second from the bus company, they have identified all the buses that could have stopped at that stop yesterday morning. They have requested that all CCTV be checked. They will wait to here from my insurance and will deal with them direct.

So far so go.

Just got home and walking into the house, bus pulls up. Hang on that's got a bit of a scrape down the back corner. Right at the height of the scrapes on my car. Quick get the phone out.

I know what you are going to say, some pics I've not posted, but the marks on the bus all line up with the damage on my car. The most damage on the bust relates to the degree of damage on my car.

More importantly It gives the insurance company at suspected vehicle that can now have its CCTV requested or driver questioned. Instead of trying to find THE BUS out of the pool that would have been filling the route on Monday.

tbf the diver may or may not of known he did it. Although he would have known the next time he came round!

Insurance updated and thats all I can do.

He would have known his hit a car.

Back in my college days when I used to take the bus to the train station, on two occasions the bus I was traveling in hit a car and just continued driving, first time it took a wing mirror off clean, second time it clipped the back bumper off a car, drove off both times, second time some passenger told him he hit a car, no ****s were given by the driver.

I have also seen numerous times cars with red paint and scuffs on doors along a bus road route that is narrow and curve, my old mans car got hit by one once.

Bus drivers are some of the worst drivers out there.

I'm not surprised... I have a friend my age who is a bus driver. He has only had a normal driving licence for 2 years. :p
