Destination to break flights up?

Singapore is an incredible city (and is a cheap stop off if flying Singapore Airlines). We did all the tourist stuff in 4 days including trips out to the theme park, zoo etc.

The climate however, well that doesn't agree with me :(

This was my first look but i think it looks a bit 'small'? I don't think i could fill a week there, i think i'd get bored, as mucvh as i'd like to see some of the architecture there.

Vietnam would be my choice.

I want to go to Vietnam, but would want to spend longer than a week there and tour the whole country. So i think i'd do this on a holiday of its own.

Los Angeles. Fly Air New Zealand NZ1/NZ2 return from London to Auckland, it stops over at LA to refuel and you can do a stopover there.

Then rent a car and head over to Vegas, or wherever.

I did consider LAX with ANZ, and will still consider it, just so i can say i've flown around the world :D. But again, the road trip thing is something i'd like to do in a holiday of its own, 3 or 4 weeks. I may also consider Rio de Janiero or Mexico.

Problem is, i really don't know what i want in this final week, it's purely so i'm not doing the whole 25 hours of flying in one go. It needs to be enough for 1 week though so that i don't leave thinking it wasn't long enough, and want to go back again.

LAX is my least favourite airport I've ever visited. They never seem to have adequate staff.

Hong Kong or Singapore would get my vote. Both places are easy to get around in a couple of days and are well served by airlines flying to NZ.

Also agree with Bangkok, if you have never been to SE Asia and don't have big bucks to spend you will have more fun in BKK than Singapore.

Money isn't an issue, but i think i'd prefer to see Bangkok to Singapore, would i be right to think there would be more 'culture' or 'real Asia' there than in SIN?

Also, my wifes' aunt owns a hotel in Phuket which we could go and stay at, but that's another flight from BKK which, really, i don't fancy.

Yes, SIN is nice and civilized, BKK is just a bit crazy but I love it there. There are some nice roof top bars, lots of things t, see, do and eat. Yes you will feel more of the culture compared to SIN.

Phuket is lovely but you need a week at least there. They now have non stop flights to HKT from london so you may as well take a dedicated trip at some point.

We stopped off in Singapore. The only trouble with doing so is that Singapore is truly, painfully hot and humid and with a flying visit you get no time to slow down, relax and acclimatise.

Singapore is VERY humid (thats the killer more than the heat), and there are a number of thunderstorms that kick off around there (even outside of thunderstorm season which is around September to December).

It is small, but trust me there is PLENTY to do. I go there 2 to 3 times a year. Sometimes with the wife and kids, and sometimes with a few friends. We have never failed to entertain ourselves.

i'm biased, but hong kong....it's a middle ground between the sterile big city of Singapore and the outright craziness of Bangkok. lots of real historical culture that Singapore doesn't have, and more than enough to do to keep busy for a week...from tropical islands that dont allow cars, hikes with epic views and then amazing architecture, food, restaurants and the historic stuff too :)

Again, Hong Kong is somewhere i'd like to spend longer than a week, so i'd leave knowing i'd want to go back. I'd probably do HK with China (Shanghai etc) on a 3 week trip.

Hong Kong is a city after all, I'd say a week is absolutely ideal, any longer than that is surely too much?

Yeah I think for any city a week is the most you'd need! I spent 8 days in bangkok and hated it by the end!

If you're intent on getting out of the city and exploring then that is another matter..

I agree with fox, I was there for 5 days and its more than enough.

I've had a look at Hong Kong now and i think i might change my mind, it looks fantastic and works out cheaper to fly there (but dearer to stay). I think when i book in March, it'll come down to what the best deal is on the day. Thing is, I really want to fly Emirates (and partners) to get my skywards points, and on skyscanner, the flight for December (as far ahead as i can plan on there) works out at £1077 for MAN -> AKL, AKL -> HKG then HKG -> MAN with Emirates / Quantas / Emirates, yet i can't get it on the Emirates site. Strange.

You can do pretty much all of the main tourist bit in 5 days in Hong Kong, it's a city where the MTR is great, taxi are cheap and food is great. The airport is also not far from the city either.

Seoul is definitely doable in a long weekend. The airport is quite a distance from the airport but it's easy to get around once you're there.

Aaargh, i've been watching videos on both HK and Bangkok and i've convinced myself that Bangkok would be better for me, the street food is really appealing, i know that HK has it too, but it's cheap in BKK so if i don't like something, i can just try something else, it'll make me a bit more adventurous as i haven't eaten much Thai food before. Also, BKK is much warmer in Feb too than HK. I'm set on Bangkok now, i can't wait to go, roll on Feb '17. :D
