Madeleine McCann's parents

Operation Grange I strongly believe was set up to ensure the McCanns won their case against the Portuguese detective.

Are you claiming the McCanns are so influential that they can control the British police?

The McCanns began their libel case against Gonçalo Amaral in 2009. Operation Grange didn't start until 2011. Isn't that a bit late? Why wait 2 years?

Immediately after the victory the amount of officers were cut to Skeleton

Wrong. The McCanns won their court battle in April 2015. Operation Grange was not scaled back until October 2015.

She is right 100%.

If you really must blame someone, then Kate and Gerry are right there in front of you. And yet, protected by some invisible force-shield I don’t understand.

Show me a family from a council estate who left their child alone to go out eating and drinking who have been lauded with such support and the protection of the state.

Last year, a father of a two year old was arrested and prosecuted after leaving his daughter in a car for two minutes whilst he ran in to a chemist to buy Calpol.

Exactly. I think Madeleine deserves justice. The fact that she's being denied justice for any reason is ridiculous.

Just try it. Put your prejudices aside for a minute.

She writes huge volumes about all sorts of stuff. Some people probably agree with what she writes but don't feel particularly comfortable sharing that they do. But, give enough time and enough content, there's bound to be one or two articles every now and then. Law of averages.

I'm prejudiced, or rather informed, by what views she's expressed in the past. And so I choose to disregard what she says now.

Well recently there was the Welsh family who let their daughter wander every night and she got chopped up into pieces, I don't think they got arrested.
Not long ago a young lad had walked back over 2 miles from a park and ended up dying - they weren't arrested.
I'm sure the list is endless.

Letting kids (you didn't mention ages) out of the house on their own is a little different from leaving preschool children to their own devices to go out boozing

Indeed, and in the headline she says the parents should let go. Without closure this is very difficult. If my daughter was taken, and it was not my fault (not saying this is the case here) then i doubt i would let go at all.

I grew up on a council estate and we were allowed to wander when I was around 6 years old but I had to be back in by about 5pm, I suppose it was a bit different in the 80s though.

That article is actually quite well written, so I assume it was written by someone who thinks that way but couldn't get away with publishing it so Hopkins put her name to it instead.

But yes - rather scary to think I agree with something her name is against

^^ This.

I have seen no evidence that the McCanns have enjoyed 'state protection', and since they lost their daughter overseas, the British police have no jurisdiction over their case. So even if they were guilty of criminal negligence, they can't get done for it in the UK.

The McCanns were negligent, true enough. But they were not 'I-just-let-my-kids-roam-free-at-midnight-on-our-council-estate' negligent. They left their children in a locked hotel room, which is a very different situation. It's not difficult to see why they assumed the children were safe.

But that's not what the McCanns did. They left their children asleep in a locked room, while they ate a perfectly normal meal with their friends a few hundred metres away. They weren't 'out boozing.'

State protection is a strong statement.

However it was clear that a massive PR operation was brought in shortly after her disappearance. The proof of that was the Governments own PR spokesman Clarence Mitchell joining them in the very early days.

In addition the services of Carter-Ruck libel lawyers (also used by the Government) were employed. Why do you need libel lawyers when you are looking for a missing child?

It is clear to me that the McCann's were given access to contacts and services far beyond the reach of the average Joe.

You only need to compare it to the Ben Needham case and you quickly can see they must have influence somewhere.

The British press and McCann's constantly criticise the Portuguese Police for looking at them as suspects but it was the UK police who suggested to them they should start by looking at the family and close friends.
