I have had this problem for a while despite getting 8-9 hours sleep and going to the gym approximately 4 times a week.

I get up feeling great and then around 11.30-1200 and again at around 3pm as well will start feeling drowsy and struggle to keep my eyes open. A microsleep will keep me going for a long time however if I reach this point.

Oddly enough if I have a bad nights sleep or less hours than I usually do I will wake up feeling rubbish and tired but more of like an autopilot mode and I don't drift off during the day.

Does anybody else suffer with a similar problem?

See a GP - it's probably nothing but it could indicate a treatable condition. Sorry I can't be more help.

I don't suppose you have a radiator or something near where you spend your day? I have to reach over every now and then at work and turn mine off or I'll drift right off to sleep :D

Pretty much.

This is usually indicative of some underlying condition.

In the meantime, try cutting out caffeine and see if that helps.

Go to your GP.

Try to cut out caffeine. Try to eat lighter meals. Having a post-lunch slump is nothing strange, worse if you're eating massive meals. Do you do a desk job? Are you busy enough?

But yes, see a GP just incase. Could be iron deficiency or something.

Coffee, occasional walks & light foods/snacks help me through the day in the office, I get drowsy around mid-day if I have sandwiches/something heavy to eat as it's hard to break down.

Light foods and water, unless you're already trying that.
Cutting out caffeine helps too.

1. Take the stairs
2. Have a glass of ice water
3. Kill a man
4. Tag out
5. Take a pipe organ break
6. Put in new eyes
7. Swallow some little snakes
8. Prove Melissa wrong
9. Put your hand into a paper shredder
10. Stand at the edge of a precipice and howl into the great unknown

Yep. But I drink too much coffee, don't sleep enough, have a low carb diet & don't consume additional sugars. I also go to the gym 5 times a week and drive 4-5 hours a day, three days a week.

I have the same issue but only when I'm in a meeting, in a classes room course or even at the cinema. I go to the gym 6 times a week, don't touch caffeine. Been struggling with it for years.

Definitely see a GP, if you're getting a solid 8-9 hours and your body wants to sleep it could indicate an issue.

It could also be something as simple as your job itself, if you're sitting staring at a screen for 8 hours not engaging your brain a lot for example. Unless I keep my mind stimulated I can get drowsy quite quickly.

I feel tired all the time, but that said my sleeping pattern is all over the place (sometimes regular 11pm schedule, then sometimes stretches all the way in the night own 4am zone, dunno what's wrong :o), and my diet is pretty poor atm (not uncommon to skip lunch, loss of appetite, etc.) so I only really have myself to blame...

On a somewhat related note though, I have found myself more regularly just zoning out/randomly gazing into nothingness. I always eventually catch myself doing so and feel pretty weird afterwards...

There have been worse films....

I was getting this a while back and ended up joining the gym, which helped for a bit of time. I've since not been going due to other commitments and it's starting to creep up on me again. Recently taken up 5 aside and it seems to be helping a little bit, but will need to do more to benefit from it.

How old are you OP? I used to be very sleepy during the day until I got to around 30... Diet hasn't improved, I drink more alcohol and caffeine these days but I just don't get the need to snooze like I did and 7-8 hours sleep is plenty these days.
