So, looking for new bibs. Would people:
A) get Castillo free aero race for £90 (read a few things on here and wiggle re build quality issues)
B) get the Assos s7 for about £135 or
C) go all out and get the Rapha pro team for about £170 (read good things and offer free repairs)

I am willing to pay for quality and comfort.

:p:p I am having no luck recently, and you know I am not exactly capable of bear strength torquing and breaking stuff. It's just all going wrong at the moment! I can't get those stupid Shimano pedals off the Bianchi either, the bloke I bought it from never looked after it at all.

I'm a dab hand at ceased pedals now, did some at the weekend for a friend. They hadn't been put on with grease and had been on the bike since new, 4+ years ago! Although my pedal wrench is now looking a little sorry for itself... Has anyone got the park tools workshop one and used it quite aggressively?

Dean, my current 'tactic' is to fit the bike into turbo (mines a KK RM so very sturdy) and then (while holding the wrench & opposite pedal in position from the side) place my foot on it and then transfer my weight to it. One on the weekend I had to crank the resistance up on the turbo and fasten the brakes on, then I placed a block of wood under the pedal arm (more to hold the wrench than anything else) while I jumped on it.

Use this position. A bike stand is not sturdy/strong enough!

Never even stripped it off, just looked online and see it's a common problem. Mercian cycles apparently can repair it by replacing the shifter paddle but most people say just spent the £60-£70 and replaced with new shifters completely.

It's Xenon 10 speed. Cheapo Campy! :p

I never thought shifters could be "flexy" but when I moved from my old Xenon equipped Btwin to a bike with SRAM Force the difference was crazy! The Xenon paddles felt like toys by comparison (but they are super cheap, so can't really complain).

I saw a motorcyclist get run down by a black cab on my journey home last night.:(
I was to the left of the cab and we were both waiting to turn right, the motorbike was coming towards us, headlight on, clearly visible as the sun was still up and the cab just turned straight into him and knocked him off.

The cabbie was either blind or just not looking! Thankfully the biker wasn't badly hurt but he was pretty shaken by it. If the guy was on a road bike instead of motorbike I imagine it could have been far worse!

Some amazing driving by this nob :o

Jesus that's terrible. Report that mofo!

Second day in my new job, first day commuting in by bike. It was absolutely brilliant compared to the ride I had into central Manchester! There was so little traffic - I only sat in two relatively short queues. The roads are also nicer and the profile is super flat. I was using my panniers, which worked well, though I need to move them forward a bit as I could feel it trying to fishtail a bit, particularly when I was out of the saddle. I've got plenty of room for heel clearance, so it should be ok. It felt like I built up more momentum, but that may just have been the weight of what I was carrying, as I had a pair of shoes and a fairly heavy lock with me. The showers at work are ok, and there's a drying room, which could come in handy on wet days! I could do with a locker, but I'll cope without for now...

So far so good. Tomorrow could be trickier - it's set to be -2 in the morning.

I have tried all of these on (well, not Castelli Free Aero, but other Castelli). Not cycled in any, but I think first impression still count.

A) Tried Castelli Nanoflex, and they were insanely tight, especially around the crotch area
B) Tried the Assos tiburu s7s. Those are the warmer fleece lined shorts. Exceptionally comfortable, the pad is huge but feels lovely. From what I can tell so far. Whilst the cut at the front is quite low, and might put you off, it's not terrible. Just takes a bit of getting used to I'd imagine.
C) These are very tight on the legs, very compressive, but they felt nice.

Overall, I think the Assos win it for me.

Edit: It might also be worth looking at the new Core range from Rapha. Very reasonably priced. I was actually in the store yesterday and got a sneak peak of the shorts. They look lovely!

Does anyone have a disc brake equipped bike with clearance/mounts for full mudguards?

yup using a genesis equilibrium atm. It's the cheapest frame they do though so weighs like 3kg for the frameset :o

a frame with the rear calliper on the chainstay instead of the seatstay makes it easier. Had to user a spacer on mine for clearance.

oh god my knee is playing up again. It's started to click at part bend so get sore on the bike. thinking it's a kneecap tracking issue so not as bad as it was last year.

I was looking at/for a Datum, but no bugger has any to even think about :(

yeah I couldn't find any bikes to demo locally so bought this frame off ebay 2nd hand. It was an ex bike shop demo frame for £220. The EQ geo is a bit weird, nice and stable but feels strange when getting out the saddle on climbs. I prefer the Synapse geo.

was thinking of swapping out this frame with a kinesis 4s disc next winter if I can get one in the sales.

The EQ and Datum geo is a bit different so no idea how it'll ride.

Glad you're enjoying it! Hope the job is good too? It'll take some trial and error to ride it in various conditions as it may be different to your last - more rural = more open = more winds?

Not got one but seriously looking at this Mango AR for £250, as the Kinesis 4S frameset is £750 and doubt it'll ever drop below £500. Budget option so can spend more on the brakes to go hydraulic from the start.

Very odd move creating a Waitrose Essentials-esque brand. The price is hardly cheap either so not sure who they're trying to attract here. No issue with the kit itself but pitching it as a new "value" option just seems wrong.
Couldn't agree more, although I think it's probably aimed at those who have Rapha shorts for 'best' to encourage them to wear them every day... Not a bad idea on their behalf as at £100 they're perfectly in line for flash sales down to below £80 which really puts them into competition with Castelli/Sportful/et al.

About to commute home, may extend it depending how my legs are feeling as things are nice and light! :D

Saddle adjustment last night and was going to get on the Turbo but things conspired against me... Zwift account problems (free expired and Paypal not going through for some reason) led me to just Sufferfest, only to find my turbo tyre has a puncture and anything over ~65psi and it went down... Gah! But Blue SPD-SL cleats are now fitted to my Sidi Kaos shoes to start wearing them in :D

Day of two halves today!

First part not so good! After yesterdays issues with my wheel headed out and got 12 miles out from the hotel and then bang bang bang, spoke had snapped at the nipple! Doh! Luckily not so far out of true that I couldn't limp back. My mates carried on and I spun around and headed back to the same cycle shop and the guy was around and got the bike up, new spoke in and trued up in probably 10 minutes!

He then took a look at my bike and showed me the wear I suspected on the drop out, he then proceeded to concoct a fix using washers, drills and ingenuity. Managed to get that sorted after about 30 minutes, he then put it back together and noticed that the rear mech hangar wasn't quite straight, so straightened that up and re-indexed all my gears! All in all about an hour or so looking at my bike. Went to go and pay and he only wanted €7.25! I offered him some extra cash but he wouldn't accept, so big up to

Bimont Cycles Alcudiahttp://www.bimont.com/

Got back to my hotel, dropped off most of my stuff and headed back out on a reverse route to see my mates, saw I believe David Lopez on the way out as I was pushing 200w into a headwind and hitting a whopping 14 mph! Met up with them about 12 miles in! Joined up and headed back down with the plan to go up Formentor! Just as we were getting to Pollensa, Wiggle Honda girls came flying past us, so shouted out Hola Dani, she acknowledged! Had a chat as we knew the guy who was riding with them sat on the back at 30mph chilling along.

Got to the bottom of Formentor, as I hadn't carried out any climbing today thought I'd smash up as much as I could and then onto the bumpy road up to the old fort. Hit 300w for the 18 minutes! Very happy with my power this holiday! View at the top was incredible! Managed 117/3127 on the segment 1s behind David Lopez :D So glad I went up.

Unfortunately one of my mates didn't realise we had taken that turn, and carried on all the way to the lighthouse! So we headed back to Pollensa and sat in a cafe by the sea working on our bright white legs! :D

TL: DR Broke a spoke, got it fixed, perved at wiggle honda riders, smashed a climb!
